Experts attack Bush's stance (abstinence) in Aids battle

The US faces condemnation this week from leaders of the worldwide struggle against Aids over the Bush administration's reliance on sexual abstinence as a response to the intensifying epidemic.

With a major international conference on Aids being opened by UN Secretary General Kofi Annan today in Bangkok, there are fears that lives are at risk in some of the world's poorest countries because of American objections to a 'safe sex' approach to combating Aids.

Hillary Benn, the UK's International Development Secretary, who spearheads Britain's fight against Aids overseas, told The Observer that an abstinence-only approach would not work. 'We need to have all the means at our disposal to fight the epidemic,' he said. 'People should have access to condoms.'

Yep, to fight AIDS, unwanted pregnancy, the perfect solution. Get your head out of the fucking sand * and the rest of you bible thuumping conservatives, abstinence does not work! This is just so infantile a notion.

This absolutely stupid stance by Bush & Buds will cost thousands of lives. Many of them may be our own teenagers.

AIDS is coming on stronger and stronger. Three million died last year. 5 million more contracted the disease. Silently. These religious yahoos need to get their heads out of the sand.

I think we tend to discount a lot of this information because we have been hearing about it for so long - almost twenty years now. But this disease could simply decimate huge countries - China, India, Russia. Whole continents are at risk now.

"Abstinence?" Is this a joke? Or, maybe they really would like to see these countries decimated. It would make things easier for the US to be the Big Super Power.
