Wife says Cheney's outburst was out of character
http://www.reuters.com/newsArticle.jhtml?type=politicsNews&storyID=5637368

<snip>

"He was sorely tried, if I may say so, by someone attacking his integrity and then pretending to be his best friend. I think that's what set it off," Lynne Cheney said on CNN.

"The way Dick did it, it was a private comment. You wouldn't know it from the amount of publicity that it's garnered," she said.

<snip>

The vice president later told reporters he had no regrets about the outburst. Still, Lynne Cheney said her husband was not prone to cursing.

"He is such a good man, and more likely to say, 'Put a sock in it' if he's really tried," she said. "I can understand when people are pushed to extremes, that in a private setting they might say something unusual."

4. "Put a sock in it?"
As far as the "private setting," the FIRST reports...not the ones that came after tossing the story around for a week, but the "hot off the press, right after it happened" ones...said the outburst came in front of "at least a dozen witnesses."

That isn't a "private setting"...

Plus.....she says Leahy was "...pretending to be his best friend."

BU__SH__!

Lynne "Culture Czaress" Cheney can't tell the truth anymore than her husband, unless it's done inadvertently. Leahy didn't "attack" the VP's integrity.

Telling the truth about Cheney's ties to Halliburton's no-bid contracts just seems like an attack. :-)

Thankfully the polls are showing how much people want him to f off. ( I can say that because I am convinced Bush will never ever replace him )

14. Why is it that I have a hard time believing Lynne Cheney?
Lynne Cheney says the vice-president of the U.S. was "sorely tried" by "someone attacking his integrity and then pretending to be his friend"????

Gooooooooooood ole Dick couldn't deal with hypocrisy? AND BUSH SAYS CHENEY IS 'READY' TO BE PRESIDENT? Aren't these politicians all supposed to grin and bear certain things in the name of congeniality and world peace?

WHAT ABOUT DICK'S HYPOCRISY, BEGINNING WITH HIS HAVING BEEN CHOSEN TO VET BUSH'S PRESIDENTIAL NOMINEES IN 2000 AND THEN APPOINTING HIMSELF TO BE BUSH'S VERY OWN PRESIDENTIAL NOMINEE?

No... it takes more than just Lynne Cheney saying that Dick was set off by the pain of hypocrisy for me to believe it.

ON THE OTHER HAND.... don't the Bushes all, starting with Poppy, down to Jr. and Jebbie, not to mention Babs, all get bent out of shape if anyone criticizes any of them?

YEAH! Maybe Tricky Dickey Cheney getting bent out of shape for not liking it when someone tells the truth about him is something that fits in to a tee with the Bushes penchant for getting bent out of shape when anyone uncovers their true colors. Maybe that is why they make such a good fit. And, despite what Lynne Cheney says, maybe Dick's going off in the way that he did is more of a common affair than Lynne is willing to admit to any of us.

Cheney's comment "I felt better after I said it" certain rings true. Perhaps it is something that he does quite often in order to relieve himself. :hippie:

17. In character, Cheney said to Paul Wellstone on the eve of the Iraq vote,
"If you vote against the war in Iraq, the Bush administration will do whatever is necessary to get you. There will be severe ramifications for you and the state of Minnesota."

At a meeting full of war veterans in Willmar, Minn., days before his death, Wellstone told attendees that Cheney told him, "If you vote against the war in Iraq, the Bush administration will do whatever is necessary to get you. There will be severe ramifications for you and the state of Minnesota."

Wellstone cast his vote for his conscience and against the Iraq measure, the lone Democrat involved in a tough 2002 election campaign to do so. And a few weeks later on Oct. 25, as he appeared to be winning his re-election bid, Wellstone, his wife, Sheila, his daughter, Marcia Markuson, three campaign staffers, and two pilots died in a plane crash in Minnesota.

Talk about "severe ramifications."

his job. what you're saying, in your own clearly confused way, is that he CAN'T CONDUCT himself with decorum BECAUSE HE CAN'T HANDLE THE STRESS because he's ON THE VERGE OF CRACKING UP.

more and more hints about cheney being on the verge of "snapping" are coming up. next, bush will have to drop him for criminal reasons, and when he has to choose McCain, whom i personally don't hate, all of the old video tapes of him attacking McCain during the 2000 primary will come to the surface and become part of the Democratic campaign. tsk tsk tsk... if Congress hands the power to delay the election to Tommy Ridge, the whole idea of a free country will be completely in the sh*tter, and i have a feeling Canada's borders will burst.

41. Lynn Cheney deals jewelry with a Dallas outlaw ... Rebecca Collins.
Edited on Sun Jul-11-04 08:23 PM by DemoTex
Rebecca Collins lived across the street from me on Cragmont Avenue in Dallas (75205). Lynn Cheney would pull up every few months, with her SS entourage, to buy designer jewelry from Collins. The problem was Collins was running a big business from her house that was against Dallas zoning ordinances. She had a staff that parked on our street everyday, and sometimes blocked my driveway. I regularly complained, through city channels, and would get a case number. Anyone else would have been busted. Not to fear though: Collins' next door neighbor, a dear liberal friend of mine with considerably more political clout than I had, has taken up my fallen banner.

I think it was a DUer who said, a couple of years back, that Lynn Cheney always looks as if she were eating a bowl of black scorpions. Actually, I think that is what Dick and Lynn both have for breakfast every morning. Black scorpions and cream.

BTW: Rebecca Collins also has a shop (Rebecca Collins) at the Preston/NW Highway complex, kind of behind Houston's. She also has an internet trade. She is super right-wing and should be avoided like a bowl of black scorpions (for the normal among us). Verb sap!

Yum, great bowl of black scorpions. What a great after-taste!

46. If you want to see something really scary,
try this: scroll up to the big photo of Big dick. Take your hand, and cover up the left half of his face. Look closely.

Isn't that unbelievable? Dick looks like a viper, a cobra ready to strike. That mouth, curled in a permanent snarl. Now look at the left side. It's not as vicious.

I read a book a few years back called 'Reading Faces'. Dick Cheney is a classic 'split personality'. If the two halves of the face are radically different, then the person is struggling with huge issues, like a babysitter who strangles kids, or a priest who, well....you know.

I know exactly what she'd say, since I listened to her every day for years (during my Dittohead phase).

People would always call up & confess to this or that, and say it was totally out of character. And she never let 'em get away with it. "You did it, therefore it must be in your character. What you do REVEALS your character."

Just a thought.

58. I'd like to "sorely try" Cheney all right...
...in front of a judge and jury!

Ye gods, what a blood-curdling face that man has. Photos from his younger days show a relatively good looking man -- His actions and choices over the past couple of decades must have been damnable indeed to leave such a mark on his demeanor.

As for Lynne, his lovely wife, she spent that same period of time up to her eyeballs in Neocon think tanks. After W's selection it was Lynne who kept a steady stream of suitable resumes flowing into the White House. One of the biggest mistakes made by Democrats and the media has been to underestimate and trivialize the Bushwomen by critiquing their hair and makeup while ignoring their affiliations and work backgrounds.

He was sorely tried, if I may say so, by someone attacking his integrity and then pretending to be his best friend.

(So Vice Is "sorely tried" by politics)

"I can understand when people are pushed to extremes, that in a private setting they might say something unusual."

(And the Vice thinks the senate floor on picture taking day is "private".)

He lives in quite an unusual world doesn't he?
