Edwards Hits Bush On Ken Lay Links
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2004/07/12/national/main628753.shtml

(AP) John Edwards, the newly-named Democratic vice presidential candidate, suggested that President Bush's administration dragged its feet in prosecuting alleged "corporate crooks" such as former Enron chief executive Kenneth Lay.

"It took three long years to see Ken Lay handcuffed and indicted for what he did," the North Carolina senator said Saturday in the weekly Democratic radio address. "In November, middle-class families will be able to rest assured that John Kerry will look out for their interests, restore corporate responsibility and put our economy back in line with our values."

He said Kerry understands that families are struggling to stay afloat.

"You can't save any money because it takes every dime you make to just to pay your bills. And if something goes wrong, a serious illness, or a layoff, you go right off the cliff," he said. "And to make things even worse, millions of Americans have lost their life's savings and pensions because of corporate crooks like Ken Lay."

<snip>

Lay and his wife contributed more than $790,000 to Republicans and slightly more than $86,000 to Democrats from 1989 to 2001, according to the nonpartisan Center for Responsive Politics. Lay, a friend and major fund-raising "Pioneer" for Mr. Bush, collected $100,000 for Mr. Bush in 2000. Enron donated $100,000 to Mr. Bush's inaugural gala.

4. Cheney bad man
I only wish Michael Moore had spent a little more time elaborating on Cheney's links to Halliburton. Very bad man.

If I were religeous, I'd not want to be him when the day of reckoning arrives.

7. We need photos of Bush getting off /on those Emron planes while.
campaigning. Seems to me I remember lots of Emron advertising signs in the background of Bushes' rallies and at the convention. We need to tie the two together as birds of a feather flock together. You can't tell me those two didn't connive some crooked/evil energy plots when they were alone and hanging out in the White House or the ranch. Bush is as crooked as Lay...They both belong in prison!

13. Great idea- I searched, but could find none...
But I'm sure they exist- perhaps you should start a thread about this in GD 2004 and see what othr DUers can dig up.

It would be a great idea to start floating those pics around on DU & the rest of the web- perhaps a reporter or news paper will use it...

16. I'm sure that's an Enron jet but there are many pictures out there
showing their logo with Bush getting off. I've seen them many times...but have no idea how to go about finding them. They're out there!

9. We need Edwards to speak out - most * news is buried
I'll bet 2/3 of the US is unaware of the Enron/KennyBoy/Bush/CheneyEnergyPolicy links. A mention of Bush and Ken Lay in the same sentence by Edwards or Kerry gets national news. The press on their own in general would ignore the KennyBoy connection but almost have to report it if KerryEdwards mention it.

10. That's why Edwards is a good VP choice.
He made a career as a lawyer beating the living crap out of guys like Ken Lay and Dick Cheney. That's what he's best at, and he'll get to go it all the way to November.

And WMD/Saddam and Iraq/terror threat etc. We can connect some dots too.

Indeed, the list of companies providing such discounted travel reads almost identical to the list of major contributors to Bush's presidential campaign. Enron Corp, whose employees gave more than $118,000 to Bush, was reimbursed almost $60,000 for 14 flights during the campaign, including two flights reported after Election Day. Meanwhile, MBNA, Bush's top financial supporter with $238,000 in contributions, was paid nearly $20,000 for five flights.

19. For all of Bush's so-called "patriotism," he is not a patriot.
When you screw the majority of those you represent, so much so that they have no hope in the country of which they were a part of, you have destroyed your country.

22. Go! Go! Go, Johnny Go! Go!
The Lay-Bush connection needs to be imprinted on the minds of the dense 44-percent of the public that believes Bush when he says Saddam was behind 9-11.

"Duh. Gee. If Bush lied to us about Ken Lay, do ya t'ink he lied to us about Sud-damm?"
