Lynne, Dick Cheney differ on gay marriage

Lynne Cheney, the vice president's wife and mother of a lesbian, said Sunday that states should have the final say over the legal status of personal relationships.

That stand puts her at odds with the vice president on the need for the constitutional amendment now under debate in the Senate that effectively would ban gay marriage.

"I think that the constitutional amendment discussion will give us an opportunity to look for ways to discuss ways in which we can keep the authority of the states intact," Cheney told CNN'

1. Trying to play both sides of the fence...
That's funny! Lynne Cheney being used to "soften" the rightwingnut Republican fundamentalism. She's as big an asshole as "Fuck You" Cheney!

I'm sure when they're copulating she'll whisper sweet nothings about their daughter's life partner and gay marriage that will have "Fuck You" Cheney turned around on the issue.

3. Interesting use of words, I must say
Anyone else find this particular phrasing rather odd?

"Lynne Cheney, the vice president's wife and mother of a lesbian...."

Hmmm... I don't suppose that could have read "Dick and Lynne Cheney, parents to a lesbian daughter" or "the Cheneys, whose daughter Mary is a lesbian working for the Bush/Cheney re-selection campaign" -- just for examples. Note how Cheney himself is left out of this equation? Is this some not-so-subtle way to create a disconnect between the veep and his openly gay daughter? Oh, right -- the fact that Mary is gay must be the mother's "fault", since Dick's genes are "pure". I get it now.

Very odd piece of journalism, that.

4. CHENEY FLIP-FLOP: "States' rights" was Dick's position 4 years ago!
WTF? Does anyone in the media have the cojones to call Cheney on this MONUMENTAL FLIP-FLOP?

Show some 'nads, media. If Bush-Cheney wants to make gay marriage a major campaign issue, then Cheney's sudden change of heart on the topic constitutes a GIGANTIC CREDIBILITY GAP.

5. The RWs won't buy the "flip-flop" if
Cheney says God spoke to him and revealed the truth. Hey, works for Bushie! Maybe God should speak to Cheney about his language, while he's at it. Just a thought...

6. Lynne Agrees With Bush's Stance Before Bush's Flip-Flop
Before the election, Bush said on Larry King Live that gay marriage was an issue for the states. Now he wants the federal government to butt in. Can't you just hear the press yelling -- FLIP-FLOP! FLIP-FLOP! FLIP-FLOP!

Peter Singer, “Bush's Meandering Moral Compass,” L.A. Times, March 25, 2004; “Bush calls for ban on same-sex marriages
Democrats: President using amendment issue for re-election bid,” CNN.com, February 26, 2004, http://www.cnn.com/2004/ALLPOLITICS/02/24/elec04.prez.bush.marriage/; “South Carolina Republican Debate,” Larry King Live, CNN.com, Aired February 15, 2000, http://www.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/0002/15/lkl.00.html (“. . . I don't support gay marriage. I support marriage between men and women. KING: So if a state were voting on gay marriage, you would suggest to that state not to approve it? BUSH: The state can do what they want to do. Don't try to trap me in this state's issue like you're trying to get me into.”)

From "The Boo, Boo Bush Book."

7. cheney could have earned some respect and some votes
if he had stood by his 2000 stance. It would have cost absolutely nothing, and would have helped him. They just continue to make bad moves over and over and over again. I don't buy into this "they know they have it in the bag" theories. I simply think they are just that stupid. They are losing it for themselves and they do not even realize it.
