Bush to tout progress on terrorism
I wonder if he'll cite that State Department report...

http://msnbc.msn.com/id/5423244/

WASHINGTON - In a Southern state he hopes to win again in November, President Bush is getting a look at nuclear weapons parts turned over by Libya while working to convince voters that his administration is making steady progress in the war on terrorism.

Bush’s destination Monday was the Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Tennessee, which began receiving shipments from Libya in March as part of an agreement with Moammar Gadhafi to end his country’s nuclear weapons program.

The president’s effort to polish his image as a leader in a worldwide war on terrorism follows the release last week of a Senate report that harshly criticized unsubstantiated intelligence cited in the run-up to the war in Iraq, a crucial battle in the war on terrorism.

For months, Bush has been highlighting his threefold strategy for fighting terrorists and those who threaten to use chemical, biological or nuclear weapons: taking the fight to the enemy, coordinating with other nations to isolate terrorists and advancing democracy, especially in the volatile Middle East.

3. Elections ? ...
They have ALWAYS hated elections .... because it means the citizens have power, NOT the 'powerful' ...

George Bush made it VERY clear when he spoke for himself and his party :

"If this were a dictatorship, it would be a heck of a lot easier, just so long as I'm the dictator." ....

The GOP hate us for our freedoms, so they will cancel elections to assure themselves of mantianing power ....

Am I shocked ? .... not in the least ....

5. And whatssup w/ Giulianis new Anthrax Clean Up Company?
That scares me. What does he know that we don't know? Is this a future growth industry? Why are they cleaning up the Florida building THREE years later? What took so long?

6. Exactly! We're making so much progress that the people ...
can't go to the polls and vote. If we get any safer we'll all have to start sleeping in gas masks.

12. exactly, Cocoa... I don't like that this topic is being given legitimacy
Edited on Mon Jul-12-04 10:21 AM by ixion
The executive branch has no constitutional powers to do this (only those granted to themselves through a complicit and corrupt congress).

People should not even being given this option consideration. All it does is encourage the neocons and al queda to arrange another 'attack'.

Everyone knows that the 'terrorists' want Bush to stay in office. He has been their most powerful recruiter.

7. Terrorism is increasing
I suppose that is progress of some sort....not the sort that I would like to see, but for someone who's whole powerbase is centered around terrorism, this would be a good thing. Isn't that a sad thought?

8. "Significant attacks' at 21-year high, revised data show"
U.S. raises figures for 2003 terrorist attacks
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- The U.S. government restated its 2003 accounting of terrorist attacks Tuesday, reporting a sharp increase in the number of significant attacks and more than doubling its initial count of those killed.

The State Department's annual Patterns of Global Terrorism report now counts 208 terrorist attacks as having occurred in 2003, with 625 dead. When the report was released in April, it counted 307 deaths in a total of 190 terror attacks.

The number of people killed in terrorist attacks worldwide still declined in 2003 when compared with 2002, when 725 people were killed. But the decline was much less steep than originally reported, and the number of "significant attacks" -- those involving large numbers of casualties or property damage -- increased from 138 in 2002 to 175 in 2003, a 21-year-high.

"We have 18 more total events, five more significant events and 13 more nonsignificant events than originally reported," said Cofer Black, the State Department's counterterrorism coordinator. "These new figures are accompanied by a dramatic increase in the numbers of casualties originally calculated."

13. Progress?
When Bin Laden is still planning attacks, hiding in America's most favored ally - Pakistan?

When worldwide terrorist attacks are on the increase?

When there's a talk of cancelling the Election?

Does he take the American people for stupid fools?

17. Well, that should be an extremely short speech
Unless, of course, "progress on terrorism" means that the terrorists are doing better than ever.
