Bush Twins Break Silence About Campaign, Parties
http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=615&u=/nm/20040713/pl_nm/bush_twins_dc_2&printer=1

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Shielded for years from public view, President Bush (news - web sites)'s twin daughters have broken their silence in an interview describing a karaoke party at Camp David and how they surprised their father by deciding to join his campaign.

"It's not like he (Bush) called me up and asked me," Jenna told Vogue magazine in their first joint interview, released on Tuesday. "They've never wanted to throw us into that world, and I think our decision probably shocked them. But I love my dad, and I think I'd regret it if I didn't do this."

Bush is protective of his 22-year-old daughters, and White House spokesman Scott McClellan has asked the media to "show respect" as they emerge from private life as students to work at Bush's campaign headquarters in the Washington suburbs.

.
.
.
Jenna, who has an English degree from the University of Texas, plans to teach. "I'm just not political," said Jenna. "I have opinions, but there's nothing about the process that has ever interested me. I'm 22, and this is the first interview I've ever done in my life."

Don't forget that Karl Rove told Chris Matthews that Joe WIlson's wife was fair game. If exposing an underocver CIA operative is ok, I think making legitimate criticisms of adults campaigning on behalf of Bush is OK too.

66. Come on! We've got to get off this subject ...
As it makes democrats look like loonies! Wilson and his wife have been thoroughly discredited, and I think it doesn't look good if we continue to portray them as victims.

I for one never bought the idea that she was an "undercover operative" as she is the mother of 5-year old twins, and the CIA doesn't employ mothers of young children as operatives. She may have been an analyst, but her life was not endangered by any revelation of her identity. Her husband was famous in Washington, DC social circles for blabbing to everyone that his wife worked for the CIA, so if anyone is responsible for her being "outed", he's as guilty as Rove.

3. Open season....
From the article: MOM "HAS FUNNY QUIRKS"

Jenna said her parents have the "best marriage," citing as proof that "my dad thinks my mom's funny even though she's really not -- she's cute, she has funny quirks."

Jenna said her mother would tell them to clean their bedrooms. "I call her OCD (obsessive-compulsive disorder) to her face, but I'm glad now because some of it's rubbed off on me," she said.

Jenna also described how the president interacted with the girls' boyfriends. "He's not the shotgun-dad type, he's the joking-around-to-the-point-where-he-scares-the-heck-out-of-them type."

Edited on Wed Jul-14-04 02:33 AM by dArKeR
John's hand no matter when, where or whom is around? You can see the way she does it, he body language, her facial smile... She plays with John's fingers and changes the style she and which fingers she holds. Even when shes answering questions she's doing it. These guys are 'connected.' I know that look at it genuine. I've seen it up close and personal a few times myself. They love each other! Which could be no better an 'home' environment for the kids and for each other.

Anything dirty that is spread about them by the Media Whores is directly from Satan's bowels.

Look at the relationship between Laura and aWol! It looks weird even on their best day and that's the facts. Personally, I don't believe Laura has ever dealth with killing her boyfriend. I think it's a a terrible event she still has no idea how to deal with and it shows in her cold emotionless eyes and facial expression. That's the facts the Media should write about.

Yeah - not smart - quelle surprise.

I don't think this is going to go all that well for them. If they go public as political operatives for their father it's open season on both of 'em. It isn't going to be pretty and will probably be somewhat unfair. But you know, both girls are technically adults and if they choose to enter public life and politics, they have also chosen the consequences of public life and politics.

Laura must be MUCHO pissed.

31. Not an attack on Jenna, per se
but I wonder what the good people of NYC (especially Lower Manhattan) will think of this darling girl's description of how much fun the twins 20th birthday party was - considering it came less than three months after 9/11.

(quoting Jenna):

"We had 20 of our friends, and there was a really nice dinner and a karaoke machine afterward, and of course my dad had a sports tournament for the guys," Jenna said. "He's so competitive, so active. He was stressed out, I know, but we still had the party."

Now, I know...it's unfair to ask these darling girls to forego their 20th B-day party after a national disaster, but isn't it a might, er, insensitive, to crow about it in an interview? I mean, those people in NYC were still picking through the rubble of their homes around that time.

54. fair
Jenna is being used as a propaganda machine for her criminal father. Why? The answer should reveal why she is fair game. She speaks of him in glowing terms, as his daughter. Tat is not objectionable. What puts her into the fair game catagory is that she is propagandizing and being used by the campaign. She is a part and parcel of the campaign.

It gets into print. Jenna is a staged event.

Oh my, this is a family that is ideal , like little house on the prarie. Look how his daughter loves him.

she is fair game, as fair as Condi, or Powell

Or Karen Hughes--did anyone vote for her?-or how about Judy Woodward? All who get the fair game moniker.

We do not need to feel guilty about it at all. I see no reason to portect this woman.

if you do it will bite you in the ass when people feel sorry for them. Leave them alone and they will shoot themselves in the foot just like everyone else connected to this campaign has done. We can let them fall on their faces and do nothing to cause it. We are better than they are. Let's act like it.

61. OCD - I like that better than Pickles. Also, W's "type"
"the joking-around-to-the-point-where-he-scares-the-heck-out-of-them type."

I think we should respectfully quote the wisdom of this respectable young lady.

62. Chelsea Makes These 2 Look Like Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum
poor Jenna. As disinterested in the world as her father..

I'll bet she doesn't like to read either (just like daddy).

64. it's a sham...
They know they can't drag the Tequila Twins through the deep south - witness Jenna's inappropriate attire and slack jaw on her first campaign trip.

They're going to do one 'event' each, then be hidden at the Bush/Cheney HQ (where their duties haven't been defined: ha! They'll be making the coffee, no doubt). After this trip with Barbara, I'd be surprised if we saw the twins again. They'll be shoved to the side, as they seem to have been for 22 years.

65. Bush Pimps Daughters
I agree this is a sham. With the very little we know regarding Georgie's fatherly attributes, he doesn't seem to shine in this area either.

Remember Georgie's statement after one of the twins (I forgot which one)had an emergency appendectomy? The twin had just been released from the hospital and Georgie was to attend a big family celebration in Florida, courtesy of bro Jeb. When questioned about the health of his daughter Georgie's reply was that she could follow them when she felt better or she could just stay home and clean her room!!! Another comment made to the press on the raising of the girls, I have been to war and I have raised twins, I will take war! Not exact quotes, but basically it reflects his inability to show affection.

I am sure that these very attractive girls will be able to control The Young Republican male vote. It will give them hope that they may catch the eye of these young ladies and possibly give them entry into the seat of power. The twins will have the opportunity to look for their future mates.

I agree that the twins should not be attacked. If they follow the family gene pool, they will eventually sabotage themselves and their daddy.

67. Takes them too long to answer their emails from poppy
Edited on Wed Jul-14-04 09:45 AM by goclark
I couldn't believe this Vogue reporter on ABC this morning. She was talking to Charlie"I love Bush" Gipson. She was stumbling all over the place trying to describe how they were in the interview with her.'She described Jenna as "not political" has no interest in it and they just wanted to campaign because they love their dad. And, this is his last campaign.

As far as I can tell, she was just so happy to get the interview with them. They sound like their dad, spoiled brats.

But what really got me was that they said that their grandfather said they take a month or more to answer his email!

What kind of family values would cause me to not answer emails from my grandfather? And, if he was a former president of the USA that would put an added spin on it for me. These girls are worthless.

70. Respect
In my opinion, treating them with respect means treating them as equal players. They are adult women who have voluntarily entered the political arena; they are not little girls, no matter how much Scott McClellan would like us all to think of them that way. Why should they be treated any differently just because they are young and female, or because of their family connections? I'll respect them by not assuming they desire or need delicate treatment.
