Israeli army fires on U.N. convoy - AP\MSNBC
Trucks were delivering humanitarian supplies to Gaza Strip town

<snip>

GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip - Israeli troops fired Wednesday on a United Nations convoy delivering humanitarian supplies to a Gaza Strip town that has been under Israeli siege for more than two weeks.

A top local U.N. official and an Associated Press photographer were among the people traveling in the convoy. No injuries were reported.

Witnesses said the convoy, which included 12 trucks carrying flour, rice, milk, canned goods and medical supplies, was fired on by tank-mounted machine guns shortly after entering the town of Beit Hanoun.

The people on the convoy -- including the head of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency in the Gaza Strip, Peter Hansen, and an Associated Press photographer -- were forced to take cover in a nearby building, the witnesses said.

Buster Keaton is my idol.
Those who know, know.
Those who don't know can be amusing.

3. they've cracked
I think most everyone in that part of the world is insane. Arabs and Jews alike.

No normal person would want to live there. Certainly no normal, rational parent would want to raise their kids there.

Certainly no parent who cares for their child would ever purposefully bring a small child into a war zone.

Yes, I believe they are all insane over there.

4. And we aren't?? Israel is doing the same thing we are,
stealing land and oil. Most of them don't have a choice about where they live.

6. Correct in that the U.S. does torture now, and that was taken from Israel,
but not even the U.S. has fired on UN relief trucks carrying flour and milk. Of course, there were the racist sanctions imposed on the Iraqi people that killed 500,000 Iraqi children, which Madeline Notbright said was justified.

7. Anti-semitism is irrational. Hatred for those who commit such an atrocity
is not. There's a big difference.

10. This is the second bloody time this has happened recently
The other time was when some british, actually pro-israel, MPs were visiting where the british activist was shot, again I think under a UN flag.

One time you could put down to a stroppy guard.

Two fairly obvious 'shots across the bow' starts to look like policy.

12. Where is the US Response?
Where is our response to this?

We sit back and let stuff like this happen, it makes me sick. The current US mindstate leaves us as nothing more than Israel's b!tch.

When this sort of thing happens in Sudan, when this sort of thing happens in ANY country other than Israel we are right on top of it.

This has gone on too long.

13. Our response??????
My guess: "The U. N. trucks were supporting terraists and trying to give food to terraists blowing up the kindly and gentle folk of Israel. They put themselves in harms way and must pay the consequences"

16. REMINDER
John Kerry endorses this. Everytime you complain about this out of one side of your mouth do not cheer for Kerry out of the other. Kerry supports the invasion of Iraq, but for it's execution. How do you ask the last man to die for a mistake, Senator?

Better to compartmentalize rather than risk being accused of ideological purity.

If you must support Kerry, do not deceive yourselves. If you must support Kerry in the spirit of ABB, it should be in the spirit of resignation. It ain't nothin to shout about.

18. you're completely right, unfortunately :(
I'm under no illusions about Kerry. He's not really going to fight for ordinary, working class Americans or seek the kinds of changes that we desperately need. He's beholden to AIPAC.

The only reason to vote for him right now is that his name isn't George W. Bush.

Reality: Kerry is the best we can do until we get the money out of politics and go to a fair, publicly-financed electoral system.
