6 million may still lose OT pay: study
CNN Money

http://money.cnn.com/2004/07/14/news/economy/overtime/index.htm?cnn=yes

The Bush Administration issued proposed changes to overtime rules last year, but then revised them in March after criticism from some labor groups.

The original proposal would have stripped overtime protection for 8 million workers, according to the Economic Policy Institute (EPI), which studies issues affecting middle- and lower-income workers and receives funding from some labor groups.

But the revisions would still strip OT pay for about 6 million workers, EPI said in a study released Tuesday.

14. Could you explain what you mean here?
My dad put 3 kids through college with overtime pay, so I'd like to know how it's "overrated"?

2. pardon my ignorance...
but when does this hit?
Before the election?
Or is this nefarious crew manipulating to have it hit after, when all the hard-working people who live paycheck to paycheck finally figure out Bush is literally taking food out of their mouths?

7. "they are set to go into effect in August..."
"The OT rule revisions are set to go into effect in August, but some members of Congress have vowed to stop them"

If it isn't stopped, it will hit people before the election.

3. We had to give my wife a $20/wk raise to comply
And not have to pay her overtime. I am a "volunteer" here and don't get a check. There is no way the business could support paying me too.

So, between us with all the hours we work we bring in about $3.00/hr.
Owning your own business is like voluntary servitude.

6. Oh, but you forget. The rules will change when (if) there is a Dem
in the White House. It will be Kerry's fault. Yet another reason I almost welcome a Bush win -- not because I want myself or DUers to suffer, but because, in the long run, it may be the only thing that really, once and for all, turns people away from the Repubs. I sincerely think the American public has not been slapped hard enough.

8. America can't survive 4 more years of Bush...
If he gets 4 more years, we wont have an election in 2008. We'll have a theocracy with Bush as almighty King.

9. Something like a corporatist theological totalitarian police state where
dissent is punishable by death? I wonder if the alarming number of brainwashed and brain-dead who support four more years have an inkling of what's in store for them should they not watch what they say, do, watch, and read?

10. But, indepat, they always think it will be the OTHER GUY who gets
hauled off to Gitmo for such infractions. Good Murkins don't get hauled off. If you're hauled off, you're not a good Murkin. QED.

Many Murkins will have to be hauled off by their hair before they see the light.

18. All "good" Murkins will know what not to do, say, watch, and/or read: they
will be told what to do, say, watch and/or read and what not to say, do, say, watch, and/or read for "good" Murkins will be obedient and unquestioning servants as good little soldiers always are for their masters.

23. Dictatorship
You are right. Bush himself said he would like to be a dictator. I believe what he said was along the lines that his job would be much easier if the country was a dictatorship and he was the dictator (December 2000 or thereabouts). It's one of the few "successes" in his life and happened only after Daddy bought him the White House. This country was birthed by people escaping a King George. Now we have another King George who has managed to offend both Canada and Mexico. Thank goodness their citizens are able to see beyond that and do not blame us ordinary Americans. And when did we high jack the term "Americans" to mean only U. S. citizens? People of the rest of the Americas, Canada, Mexico, Central America and South America, are "Americans" too. Some of what has been done in the name of "Americans" is a real insult to the citizens of the rest of the Americas.

swing voters depend on overtime pay to meet their family budgets and they aren't going to appreciate anyone dinking around with it. And don't even talk to them about "comp time".

17. I guess these folks are going to find out for themselves
Because chimp isn't going to tell them. Anytime chimp is boxed into a corner, his involuntary reflex is to tell a lie. Later, when he gets asked about again he will give one of those one sentence "Because dick cheney can be president...next" kind of smart assed answers.

21. This will make people sit up and take notice
I think people who rationalize that all these politics don't affect them will be pretty mad when it means a lot of money out of their pocket.

It's very sad that people will have to suffer because of this. So many people are living paycheck to paycheck now.
