GOP has ‘rapid response’ ready for Dem convention
A group of intrepid Republicans will brave the swarms of Democrats descending on Boston next weekend to provide “rapid response” to the Democratic convention.

“We’re planning a rapid-response command center in Boston,” said Christine Iverson, a spokeswoman for the Republican National Committee (RNC). “We will be doing everything we can to point out the Democrats’ extreme makeover of John Kerry’s record.”

Iverson said RNC Chairman Ed Gilles-pie would join Republican elected officials traveling to Boston for the convention. The officials would be available for interviews for any of the thousands of reporters who will have virtually unlimited access to a range of Democrats, from top party figures to lowly delegates.

Some Republican congressional staffers also are heading to beantown on their own time. “I like Boston,” said John Feehery, a spokesman for House Speaker J. Dennis Hastert (R-Ill.). “It’s a nice town.”
....“They’re given to hyperbole and exaggeration and mistruth.” Told that mistruth wasn’t a word, the self-appointed one-man truth squad replied, “I just made it up.”

19. Zack, not Hatfill...Hatfill is just the guy they tried to blame it on,
Zack was videotaped going into the anthrax storage area after he had been fired. He was their operative.

5. They have TWO rapid response centers?
One would think the first one which spun and mischaracterized intelligence on Iraq would have been enough.

7. They have been reduced to pathetic trouble makers and
spoilers. Same with the chimp adverts, nothing but Kerry smears. Very undignified, unpresidential, nothing positive all negative. It is clear he has absolutely nothing on the record to run on.

9. I'll show that bitch extreme
Edited on Thu Jul-15-04 12:46 AM by Cats Against Frist
Let her get in my face with the word "extreme." The reason the dems have to "play down" Kerry's "liberal" record is because the GOP sucked up their "crazy religious" and "Tim McVeigh" contingents into their mainstream, and they have their hate radio attack dogs feeding the far right's conspiracy theories into the heads of millions of "special" Americans.

Neither Kerry or Edwards' records are extraordinarily liberal.

The GOP can rot in hell.

Does this seem like very frightened behavior?

Do they ever connect to reality?

25. Yes, since when has a Party focused a bunch of attention on the other...
parties convention? This seems like a first, and a desperate one at that.

11. I'm sure the entire Bush-loving media will do enough on their own
Who needs rapid response when the GOP already control the U.S. media?

12. If they're so keen on talking about flip-flops..
.. why not have a look at their own candidate first. I believe that Dubya ran on a smaller government, no more deficit, keeping government out of peopls lives (hello Patriot Akt & constitutional ammendment!) and bringing respect to the office!

I suppose they'll be using the same mehtods as they did during Kerry's recent speech, where they had someone inside the room with a mic so they could hear the entire speech instead of the small snippet that the "liberal" media brought.

13. More mental heavy lifting from Hastert's spokesman, John Feehery
who claimed Democrats are "given to hyperbole and exaggeration and mistruth."
Deep Thoughts With John Feehery
I realize that other bloggers have already mentioned Hastert spokesman John Feehery's quip in Sunday's Post ("It's extremely difficult to govern when you control all three branches of government."), but the more I think about it, the more Feehery's statement deserves Kremlinologist-worthy parsing.

First, of course, is the Yogi Berra-like absurdity of the statement, nothing more of which needs to be said.

Feehery's quote is also revealing in that he essentially admits that Republicans control the judicial branch. Of course, this is something that we've known about for years, but it's still nice to hear coming from the mouth of a leading GOP apparatchik.

More importantly, I think Feehery's statement reveals a certain sheepishness on the part of the GOoPer faithful. After 60 years as the minority party, followed by 8 years of divided government, Republicans finally control the brass ring of American politics. However, rather than relishing their newfound dominance, Feehery's quote seems like a tacit admission that his party is unable to rise to the challenge of, y'know, governing. Instead, they pine for the halcyon days as the minority party, when they could cheerfully rail against Democratic incompetence and treachery. Pathetic.

15. You mean the
hate, smears, libel, slander, rumor, and lie machine is up and running. Boy I never would have known. Well, tit for tat I suppose. But if the Democrats did the same would they get any coverage. It would be very telling to see how much coverage the corporate propaganda machine gives to these rethugs during the Democratic convention, although I already suspect I know the answer.

how he can be on the floor of the Democratic Convention with a microphone. He stated this yesterday on his radio program. Who's letting this jerk in, and how can we stop it.

18. sounds like they are giving away their own secrets or afraid that
someone else might use their tactics! I think it's the Repugs that have a problem with mistrust, mis truths, and mis-adminstration. They just plain MISS the point that they are ineffective.
