Former President Bush to lead Olympic delegation
Edited on Thu Jul-15-04 02:22 PM by bleowheels
Just heard on MSNBC

WASHINGTON (AP) -- President Bush's father, former President George H.W. Bush, will lead the U.S. delegation at next month's Athens Olympics.

White House press secretary Scott McClellan on Thursday said the delegation for the Aug. 13-29 games also will include Barbara Bush, the president's mother, and the president's twin daughters, Barbara and Jenna Bush.

49. DAYAMMM!!!!
I e-mailed and posted on the Kerry blog a plea months ago for Kerry to scoop the media with an announcment that he'll attend the Athens Olympics. I noted that Dubya wouldn't dare attend since he still doesn't dare go anywhere in public (the paranoia of the guilty, ever fearful of being killed by most of the people in the world). Yet Kerry and his staff totally ignored me.

HOW DO YOU GET KERRY'S ATTENTION????

Fuck it. Dubya's Pappy upstaging Kerry? This is totally fucked!

:puke:

50. I JUST GOT MYSELF BANNED FROM THE KERRY BLOG
...for complaining that no one from his campaign listened to me months ago about an Athens Olympics appearance, upstaging Dubya, et. al.

Unfortunately I got really frustrated and said things like "what does it take to get John Kerry's attention?" "What does it take to get his staff's attention?" "Fuck it." "The thing John Kerry's done right recently is to select John Edwards as his VP. Too bad John Edwards didn't have the chance to choose his own VP."

I also noted: "Is Karl Rove the only one reading the Kerry blog?"

What's wrong with Kerry's people? Are they that thin-skinned?

You know what?

FUCK HIM!

I was going to contribute (along with my wife) another $1,900.00 to his campaign tomorrow. Now they can do without that money. Screw that!!!!

Yeah, we'll vote for him over Dubya anyday. But we don't like him one bit. Lesser of two evils, by now, sad to say.

Send them all of to Athens! Get rid of the angst and bitterness towards the Father that he could never get the approval from and the cold mean distant Mother who he got little love from. The twins? Well, he hasn't exactly been the model Dad, has he? Maybe then he hopes to win sympathy from the American public for losing his "family"...and then he'll have the excuse to go after them because they killed his Mommy, Daddy and children....and hope to win the election?

9. I don't get this...
WTF do Poppy, Babs, Jenna have to do with the Olympics? And Spanos' connection to Olympic sports is tenusous at best.

Does the sitting President typically get to put "his people" in the delegation? How did this come about? What the hell is going on?

This seems like a massive campaign commercial for Bush sponsored by the Olympic committee.

I rmember this incident--1968 Summer Olympics

For the sake of the American public, not the world.
Anyway, neither the Twins, nor pop are hated in Europe the way Bush* is.

The Twins with their rather European adolescence and recent Eurotrips are actually quite liked.
Bush sr. never enraged the European public the way his son did; he's quite popular for allowing the wall to come down.

The one way to get real cheers is send Clinton: that would get the crowd behind the US team.

The Greeks HATE every American leader. They hate Clinton like he was Hitler because of Bosnia/Kosovo.

This will bring down a chorus of boos from the locals in attendance. Too bad the athletes have to get caught up in this kind of transparent jingoism and exploitation.

45. It's moments like these that make me wish I had access to the CBC
CBC's Olympic coverage is far superior than any of the major US networks. The CBC of course focuses mainly on Canadian athletes but also does a variety of features on athletes from lesser known nations. They also show most of the sports besides track, gymnastics, swimming - they'll show archery, synchronized swimming, equestrian events, etc... And all of the closing ceremonies. Unlike the US networks, which seem to focus on athletes whose family members have cancer and show events only when there's a chance for a US medal. BORING!

Since she's so keen on teaching school to poor photo-op subjects - sorry, children - in Harlem - see http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=102&topic_id=686409&mesg_id=686409

for details. I do so hope she doesn't have to cut her European vacation short in order to hurry back to prepare for her first day at school. And with the convention and the campaign coming right after that - well, I don't see how the poor dear will find the time to grade papers with her busy schedule.

29. The Old original Poppy Augustus, who's 12 years of rule was the first
True Emperor of Amerika.

Hell,if his friend Hinckley had whacked Raygun he would have ruled DIRECTLY for 11.8 years (as I'm sure the intent was).

Luckily, BushFriend Hinckley failed, Raygun lived to exert what little power he had to keep the Busheviks' Totalitarianism in check.

Yet Poppy Augustus DID rule for 12 years and WAS the First Emperor of Amerika just as Julius Caeser was technically the first Emperor of Rome.

This in spite of the fact that in both cases, the Old Republics were not yet gone.

53. Bush is becoming more and more like Hitler every day.
So how will our athletes behave and be received? Will Christian and Muslim athletes befriend each other in spite of Bushitler?

BERLIN  1936
Games of the XI Olympiad

The 1936 Olympics, held in Berlin, are best remembered for Adolf Hitler’s failed attempt to use them to prove his theories of Aryan racial superiority. As it turned out, the most popular hero of the Games, even among the German people, was the African-American sprinter and long jumper Jesse Owens, who won four gold medals. During the long jump competition, Owens’ German rival, Luz Long, publicly befriended him in front of the Nazis.

Jesse Owens (USA-athletics) became a sporting hero after winning four gold medals (100m, 200m, 4x100m relay and long jump), which did much to undermine Hitler's myth of Aryan superiority. He was one of the first athletes in the United States to see his popularity cross racial boundaries.
