Mystery Marine is back in the U.S.
QUANTICO, Va. - A U.S. Marine who disappeared in Iraq and turned up in Lebanon three weeks later arrived at a Marine Corps base south of Washington, D.C., on Thursday after six days of evaluation at a U.S. military hospital in Germany, a military official said.

Lt. Col. David Lapan, a Marine Corps spokesman, said Cpl. Wassef Ali Hassoun would continue to undergo a “repatriation” process until it is determined he is fit and capable of returning to normal duty. He said the process could take from weeks to months.

Hassoun was not made available at Quantico for questions from reporters.

Hassoun left Ramstein Air Base in Germany on a morning flight aboard an Air Force C-5 Galaxy heavy transport plane and stopped first at Dover Air Force Base, Del., where he boarded an Air Force C-12 jet for the flight to Quantico.

1. Notice how the story has changed?
He used to be the "kidnapped U.S. Marine", now he is the "Mystery Marine" who "disappeared from Iraq".

They are getting ready to hang this guy...

2. I wonder if this was some kind of undercover operation gone bad
I don't believe for one second that he was released after promising not to rejoin the U.S. military. If that were the case, they'd have "evaluated" him at Gitmo.

4. none of this makes any sense
I have the feeling he will always be a Mystery Marine, I think we'll never hear the real story.

this story is starting to sound familiar. Remember Lee Harvey Oswald.
Learns russian in the service, magically ends up in Russia, then Cuba, then Mexico. All over the place. Is this guy being groomed for something? Or am I getting paranoid?
