Actor Brolin Surprised at Emmy Nod for Reagan Role
LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Actors always claim to be surprised when nominated for an award, and after the hue and cry over the TV movie "The Reagans," actor James Brolin says he truly never expected to earn Emmy recognition for the film.

After all, CBS, the network originally scheduled to air the production, abruptly pulled the film from its lineup amid angry charges from political conservatives that it was unfair to the then-ailing Republican icon. On Thursday, the film, which ultimately ran on a CBS sister cable network, received seven Emmy nominations.

"I had not invested any real hope in it," Brolin said.

Brolin, the husband of longtime Hollywood Democratic activist Barbra Streisand (news), initially turned down the chance to play the 40th U.S. president, who died in June after a 10-year battle with Alzheimer's disease (news - web sites).

"It was the most absurd idea I've ever heard, playing Reagan," Brolin, who turns 64 this month, recalled Thursday in an interview after earning an Emmy Award nomination for his performance in the controversial film.

I'll just bet they have "no regrets"!

My sister saw that movie and said she liked reagun after that too.

I wouldn't cause I know wtf he did...but for cbs to bow to reich zealots..is just too typically mediawhorish for me.

Good! I'm so glad Brolin and Judy Davis got Emmy nods. Ironic Times!
