Allawi shot prisoners in cold blood: witnesses
By Paul McGeough in Baghdad
July 17, 2004

Iyad Allawi, the new Prime Minister of Iraq, pulled a pistol and executed as many as six suspected insurgents at a Baghdad police station, just days before Washington handed control of the country to his interim government, according to two people who allege they witnessed the killings.

13. Iyad Allawi, the CIA's New Stooge in Iraq
http://www.infoshop.org/inews/stories.php?story=04/06/27/9000887

"We Will Crush Fallujah's Insurgents"
Iyad Allawi, the CIA's New Stooge in Iraq
June 27, 2004
By PATRICK COCKBURN

It is in this shadowy world that Mr Allawi is happiest. He defended himself this month against charges that he was being financed by the CIA by saying that over the years he had taken money from 15 different intelligence organisations but had always been true to his aim of getting rid of Saddam Hussein. In 1978, Saddam, angered by Mr Allawi's change in loyalties, sent assassins to his home in London. They burst into his bedroom armed with knives and axes but he survived, though seriously wounded.

Mr Allawi founded the Iraqi National Accord (al-Wifaq), which sought to attract defecting Baathists and army officers. In 1996 it opened an office in Jordan and tried to launch a coup against Saddam in Baghdad. It failed bloodily. Iraqi security men had penetrated its organisation. But the CIA appeared never to lose faith in him as their chosen agent.

Curiously Mr Allawi's subterranean existence since the fall of Saddam has stood him in good stead. Much of the time he was out of the country. His rival Ahmed Chalabi, close to the Pentagon and the neo-conservatives but hated by the CIA and the US State Department, has fallen from grace as a result of bureaucratic wars in Washington.

The problem for Mr Allawi is that he must now try to ride two very different horses at the same time. Iraqis want him to restore order and get rid of the US occupation. But he has no real base and must therefore do what the US wants at the end of the day. He is thus in danger of having responsibility but little power and being seen by Iraqis as an American stooge.

3. Is it wrong that I laughed at that?
Not at the deaths, but at the absurdity?

Bush is a fool.

8. It seems well substantiated
It was confirmed by the Australian journalist, who contacted the two witnesses independently (neither one knew that the other was interviewed) and they gave stories that coincided in almost all details. What differences there were, were minor and only served to lend the story the 'ring of truth' that is sought after by those of us who still care about truth.

9. I think if you google the journalist you will find he is highly regarded
the interview linked at drudge today touted his awards and credibility and says he has excellent sources.

there were MANY witnesses including several americans.

unless you were there, kagemusha, or have inside info - then your dismissal of this report by a highly respected journalist holds no water whatsoever.

He claims to have two eyewitnesses as sources which is usually good enough for print.

i would guess most folks would be too scared to corroborate this but his US bodyguards could probably testify.

16. Rumor, yes. The majority of all news stories
concerning the internal workings of any regime begin as rumors. That is to be exspected. But how is it "wishful thinking"?

19. Of course
Because the guy who cheers on the crusader army blowing up his countrymen by the thousand is obviously above this. It's not like these men were in a school bus or a movie theatre, so I can see where the doubt stems from. A US-backed puppet dictator being advised by Negroponte would never do anything of the sort!

None of this is 'proof', I suppose, but I can't see devil's advocate here without a dismissive sneer..

11. Isn't one of the attacks he was supposed to have done while working
for the CIA (or whomever) an attack on a school bus with an unknown (or intentionally unreported) number of casualties?

Oh well, as the new saying goes, let freedom reign.
