France–based Bic announced plans to shutter the historic pen plant by the end of 2006, idling 124 employees.
Bic spokeswoman Jill Klimack said Friday that similar talks will take place next week at Bic's Milford, Conn., single–blade shaver plant, which employs about 300 and is scheduled to be closed in 2006.

"Now that plans have been finalized for the closure and transition of these operations, we want to be sure every employee has all of the information he or she needs to make the best decision for themselves and their families during this difficult time," said Rick McEttrick, Bic's senior vice president and general manager.
While employees at the century–old plant await word on their future, economic developers in Lee County are continuing talks designed to maintain a Sheaffer production facility in Fort Madison.
