Appleton official ejected from Bush event
APPLETON — Outagamie County Supv. Jayson Nelson might be new to politics, but he already can attest to the price of freedom of speech.

Nelson, who joined the County Board this year, said he got bounced from the VIP list for President Bush’s speech Wednesday at the Resch Center in Ashwaubenon because of inappropriate attire.

Nelson attended a John Kerry for President rally in Fond du Lac earlier in the day before taking his spot in line outside the Bush campaign venue. The event was part of a daylong Bush campaign bus tour through eastern Wisconsin, including the Fox Cities.

Nelson said he was ejected after being caught sporting a T-shirt endorsing the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee, though he said it was fully hidden beneath a heavy cotton button-down shirt.

5. sad to say that the limits are already here.
They just can't send you to the Lubyanka for dressing inapropriately yet.
I am thinking there must be huge ammounts of fear behind acts like this.

pathetic.

2. Funny in a way. Cost Bush votes. Should have let the guy in.
But we should be happy that we have the clothing police out and working.

4. Just wanted to hear the other side
Gota a feeling he doesn't care anymore what the other side will be saying.

When I went to Gore rallys, there were anti-Gore people all over the place. Out side event, but they were not being made to leave. Made a big protest and everything. The media gave them ALOT of attention. I remember this one family who had a child in a baby stroler. The child had a sign hangin from it's neck. Said it wanted a president that was honest and not a lier... Hmmmm.... I guess mommy and daddy should have voted differently. LOL! ANy who, the kid and the family got TV coverage.

Besides the "campaignign type protests" there was another group that was doing a "walk by". WE all got out of the way and stood by quietly. The republicans were rude to these people. Both in manor and actions. The republicans refused to get out of their way. WE had to ask them to move and TOLD them that these people had a right to protest too. AND told them that "this" was a different protest. They had a message and was trying to get it to our Governments attention. Gore was still VP.

I think that those that went to Gore's campaign speaches and protested, etc.. should attempt to wear a Kerry "something" to a Bush campaign speach. Just to see the difference. Just to have the experience and understanding of the direction our country is going. I understand how had that would be. Everyone wants a chance to see their President. If they do this, they will loose that chance. Hard choice.

6. "making a lewd gesture to the pro-Bush crowd"
Jeez, most DUers have done this in their hearts at least. Probably the SCOTUS has ruled that giving the bird to freepers is unconstitutional or Congress is about to make a new amendment, the "Defense of Wingnut Points of View Amendment."

7. “Look at his shirt! Look at his shirt!”
Nelson said he was ejected after being caught sporting a T-shirt endorsing the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee, though he said it was fully hidden beneath a heavy cotton button-down shirt.

. . . .

Whether betrayed by a Republican informant or by a dash of Kerry green above the buttons, Nelson found himself plucked from the line and ordered to shed his outer shirt.

. . . .

Once exposed, the female election worker who singled Nelson out snatched the VIP ticket from his hand and called for police, he said.

“Look at his shirt! Look at his shirt!” Nelson recalled the woman telling the Ashwaubenon Public Safety officer who answered the call.

Nelson said the officer told him, “You gotta go,” and sternly directed him to a Secret Service contingent that spent seven or eight minutes checking him over before ejecting him from the property.

American citizens are being detained and questioned everywhere Bush goes. Some journalist should do a story on this.
