Edwards takes $1 million in S. Fla. visit
Stopping in Hollywood and Orlando, Democratic vice presidential candidate John Edwards added campaign cash ahead of next week's Democratic National Convention.

Democratic vice presidential candidate John Edwards made his solo Florida debut Sunday, touting his running mate as a candidate with ''guts and backbone,'' while cheerfully accusing the Bush campaign of a series of ``relentless, negative attacks.''
''And I've got a prediction for you,'' the North Carolina senator said to rumbles of laughter late Sunday from an audience at a Hollywood fundraiser. ``We're going to see more and more negative attacks as we go toward Election Day. But that's where ya'll come in. That's where we come in. Between now and November the American people are going to reject these tired old negative hateful politics. They're going to embrace the politics of hope.''
Campaign strategists had hoped the selection of the one-time John Kerry rival who earned plaudits during the primaries for a sunny disposition would energize the Democrat's campaign, and it appeared to work on the Broward crowd of 350. Many of the attendees had mobbed Edwards last month when he headlined the state party's annual fundraising dinner at the same hotel, the union-pension fund-owned Westin Diplomat Resort & Spa.

With that, a beaming Edwards bounded on to the stage and told the crowd to expect frequent appearances. Florida is one of a little more than a dozen states that could go either way in November, and both campaigns have vowed to make it a priority. Kerry is to appear next Monday at Cape Canaveral in a lead-up appearance to the Democratic National Convention.
