Central members of Kristiansand Progress party claims Hitler’s "Mein Kampf" and the Koran are one of the same, and they want Islam banned in Norway.

According to the Norwegian paper Dagbladet, central figures in Kristiansand Progress party (Frp) wants to ban Islam in Norway.

"We are not the only ones demanding this ban," said Halvor Hulaas, chairperson in Krstiansand Frp to the paper. "This is an opinion that is well established in Scandinavian countries. We are now importing people with a religion that is practiced in the same way it was practiced when it was established in year 600. The freedom we have in Norway may be taken away from us if we do not start to have some demands to these immigrants."

Granted, these people are probably too young to have lived through that, but I'd bet the awareness of Nazism in Norway is a little higher than it is here, despite the fact that you can't go through three threads on DU without seeing a "Bush is Hitler" thread.

This is a strange new Norhern-European kind of xenophobia: we don't want people from other cultures because they, unlike us, are not open-minded! We are chauvinistic not because we want to be but because the brown people aren't as liberal! We are intolerant toward those people because those people are not tolerant!

Total self-contradicting lunacy. There was that bald gay guy in Holland who was recently killed I think, who was a rising political star and spewing this kind of garbage.

I read something on the Guardian that essentially said that pluralism and liberalism are mutually exclusive and trying to get the two together is like mixing oil and water--possible, but only under the special circumstances.

Anyway, the article goes on to say that the one reason Scandinavian countries can afford to be so liberal in most of their policies is because of their incredible homogeneity. Liberal programs like welfare and health care completely break down when two groups with perceived competition for scarce resources (take for example poor rural whites versus immigrants, or the religiously conservative versus homosexuals) are forced to draw from the same pool. This creates a palpable tension where one group sees themselves unwillingly supporting an ideology they want no part of.

I would like to think that this isn't true, but just looking at race relations in between Brits and Indian and Pakistani immigrants in certain British cities, the French banning head scarves, and the complete polarization of US politics, well, I am losing hope...

of Saudi Arabia teaches a philosophy very similar to Mein Kampf.These people are the most conservative and represent less than 5% of Muslims. These are the guys who did 911. There are 5 main schools of Islamic thought and many subgroups. The Hanbalis are determined to restore Islam to its glory days.
