Film sways voters

After watching the newest Michael Moore film Saturday, Adam Burchfield said he “definitely won’t vote for Bush.”

Most people who attended the showings this weekend at Central Mall Cinemas, though, said “Fahrenheit 9/11” won’t likely turn President Bush’s strongest supporters against him.

Burchfield, 20, Salina, said his opinion about Bush and the current administration has been “teeter-tottering” back and forth for quite some time.

Watching “Fahrenheit 9/11,” though, changed that, he said.

“It really influenced me,” Burchfield said. “I definitely won’t vote for Bush now. It really opened my eyes to some things.”

The movie implies that the Bush family has close business ties with the bin Laden family and other wealthy Saudis. It suggests President Bush didn’t really win the close election in 2000, he said. And parts of the film, he said, make the president look plain clueless.

I know that's people's impression, but they are mistaken.

17. Louisiana is certainly not the most progressive state in the union

but we have two Democratic senators and a Democratic governor. You can't say that for many of the other states in the South.

Oh and by the way, David Duke has lost every election he has been in except for one (as a state senator, and that was in 1988)..

But I lived in New Orleans for about 10 years, and I can say that your Democratic Senator, John Breaux, is a Democrat in words only. He is a disgusting human being in every regard, and he votes with the Republicans more than he does with his own party. He's very similar to Zell Miller of Georgia.

Even though the story of how F911 is breaking all records for a documentary is all over the network noose shows, people still need to read about it.

Seriously, if this was a movie about how bu$h walks on water, we'd never hear the end of it.

11. The irony being

that Kerry's DLC driven campaign will receive it's most notable ABB boost from a progressive activist, a member of the despised, most marginalized faction of the base.

While Kerry ducks the liberal label, he should bow and kiss Moore's feet.

12. Moore or the film owners should get a deal with Bravo

or one of the cable networks to broadcast the movie in October, THAT WOULD MAKE AN IMPACT. For me, an F9/11 effect will only be a passing thing, people see the movie, it bangs them over the head but after a few weeks it fades.
Getting the DVD out, distributing copies, getting it broadcast that will really lead to the debate the Mike is hoping for. Although Moore stuck close to "House of Bush/House of Saud" in the movie, "American Dynasty" presents the same conclusions about Bush, Cheney and Oil and that the deals with Enron, Carlyle, Halliburton the Saudi's etc. are more than mere coincidences but a very calculated and single minded drive that America and the GOP can and will stay the most powerful nation on Earth by control the world's supply of energy namely oil. And this has been an on-going obcession since the Kaiser discovered oil reserves in Mosul, Iraq back in 1914.

16. I've had my convictions reinforced in the past few days

by a couple of things.

I picked up a copy of David Corn's "The Lies of George W. Bush", which is now in paperback, and I also ordered the DVD, "Unprecedented" about the 2000 vote in Florida.

I'm reading snippets of "Lies" as I wait for long downloads, and I've just finished the section on the Florida "recounts".

I watched the "Unprecedented" DVD last night while working.

Like Fahrenheit 9-11, there wasn't much new in either the book or the documentary for someone who's been paying attention and reading DU or Buzzflash .

However, all these things together have made me madder than ever and more committed to spreading the word and doing whatever I can to ensure a fair election this time.

The book and documentary are so effective that I find myself stomping into my husband's office to demand not "Why are these people still in the running?" but "Why are these people not in jail?"

And I don't mean just Bush, Cheney, et al. I mean every damned one of them who participated in what looks more and more like a coup.

Not only did they commit the larger crime of stealing the Presidency, but I think these sources (and the many others out there) show that they committed hundreds, if not thousands, of smaller crimes - - saying and doing clearly illegal things to sway that election their way.

How any of them walk the streets free is truly beyond me.

14. The movie doesn't "imply" it CONFIRMS the Saudi ties.

Nothing in this movie has been disputed other than an ambiguous, "it stretches the truth?" NOTHING!!! It's a factual documentary on the crooked, arrogant, resident of the White House.
