Republicans Blast President Bush on Environment
by Erik Stetson

CONCORD, New Hampshire - One of the Environmental Protection Agency’s earliest leaders, flanked by Republican state politicians, blasted the president’s record on the environment Monday during a news conference organized by an anti-Bush environmental group.

Russell Train, a Republican, was the EPA’s second chief under presidents Richard Nixon and Gerald Ford. But he said Bush’s record is so dismal he’s casting his presidential vote for Democrat John Kerry in November.

"It’s almost as if the motto of the administration in power today in Washington is not environmental protection, but polluter protection," he said. "I find this deeply disturbing."

2. this needs to be a bigger issue
I'm for NAFTA and capitalism, but we must respect the environment. We must work to wards global environmental standards and thus, balance the higher cost of production in 1st world country's.

3. "Republicans for Environmental Protection," a national organization
I know some people from this group locally. They are dead serious. I'm sure not one of them will vote for Bush this year, and they all did in 2000.

From their home page:

http://www.repamerica.org/

Welcome to REP America...
the national grassroots organization of Republicans for Environmental Protection
"the environmental conscience of the GOP"

"Conservation is a great moral issue, for it involves the patriotic duty of ensuring the safety and continuance of the nation." --President Theodore Roosevelt

"I do not intend that our natural resources shall be exploited by the few against the interests of the many." --President Theodore Roosevelt

"REP America represents the very best of the Republican Party. It’s pragmatic. It advocates policies that are good in their own right. It represents the mainstream of Republican thought. I encourage all conservation-minded Republicans to join me in supporting the work of REP America." -- Theodore Roosevelt IV, Lifetime Member of REP America

4. and this is an issue where Kerry is very good in
96% lifetime from the LCV and endorsed by them in the primaries. If you need a reason to vote for Kerry, it should be this, he's very pro environmental protection. Nixon actually established the EPA and was somewhat decent on the environment.

5. interesting contradiction
Bush "has made progress over the last four years giving us cleaner air, water and land," Thomson said in a statement.

<snip>

"It is the worst record in modern history, unfortunately," said Aimee Christensen, the group’s executive director. "They are systematically weakening our keystone public health protections and undermining decades of bipartisan leadership on the environment."

No $hit.
Look at the asshole running the EPA. He's a lame fcuk * appointee.

------
"It’s almost as if the motto of the administration in power today in Washington is not environmental protection, but polluter protection," he said. "I find this deeply disturbing."
------

On another note, I just read that air tankers were grounded which could have been brought in to fight recent wildfires in Nevada.

They were grounded for safety concerns around 2002. Was there another reason? Did jerkoff pretz. * secretly order them grounded so wildfires could burn more out of control and the asshole could cite incidents like this to push his warped agenda to give away more forests to the timber companies under the guise of reducing fire threats?
