U.S. sees Libya as model on North Korea

...John Bolton, the under secretary of state for arms control and international security, is considered one of Washington's more hawkish critics of North Korea. Last year, he called North Korea's leader, Kim Jong Il, a "tyrannical rogue" and described life in the North as a "hellish nightmare."

In return, Pyongyang branded him "human scum."

Nevertheless, Bolton told the South Korean foreign minister, Ban Ki Moon, that President George W. Bush was "very eager to have a peaceful diplomatic solution to this problem." Bolton said that he hoped his visit would forge a coordinated approach to disarming Pyongyang.

2. It's "make nice to N. Korea" time...

so that they don't f*ck up the election.

Knowing them, though, I suspect it's futile.

Because the Libya talks started under Clinton's administration, Bush was lucky enough to grab unwarranted glory from negotiations by Clinton.

This administration doesn't have any diplomats with enough savvy or clout to get North Korea to agree to anything.

4. Moreover, the N. Koreans will play 'em like a cheap fiddle...

Expect something militant to come out of N. Korea - like another missle firing or something.

Which will yield MORE concessions from the Bush junta...
