GOP to Set Up Boston 'War Room'
WASHINGTON - Vowing to answer "every misstatement" Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry (news - web sites) and his allies make at next week's Democratic National Convention in Boston, Republicans will set up a "war room" nearby and launch a new Web site devoted to debunking Democrats.

"We're going to set the record straight as Democrats try to sell a story to the American people that's completely disconnected from the reality," said Steve Schmidt, a spokesman for President Bush (news - web sites)'s re-election campaign.

The rapid response operation is a joint effort by the Bush campaign and the Republican National Committee (news - web sites), and will be in full swing next week as Bush takes a break from campaigning and pulls his TV ads during the convention.

It will include a daily 10 a.m. conference call with reporters hosted by RNC Chairman Ed Gillespie and GOP notables. They include........
...
The war room also will coordinate radio and TV interviews with those GOP surrogates, as well as those for beaming via satellite into targeted markets in battleground states. Republicans at the state level also will hold their own conference calls.
...
Dyke contends Democrats are putting on "a cosmetic convention" to "make over" Kerry and Edwards, who Dyke described as "the first and fourth most liberal senators." In that vein, the Republican Web site is called DemsExtremeMakeover.com.

4. Here's the kicker...
... "It will include a daily 10 a.m. conference call with reporters hosted by RNC Chairman Ed Gillespie and GOP notables."

Does that smack of Paul Weyrich's Wed. morning meetings in DC for everyone to get their talking points in order?

If I were actually reporting the news, why on earth would I want these people telling me what to think before the fact?

One question? If these guys are so determined to get their point of view out in clearly partisan circumstances, why did they kill the "Fairness Doctrine"...? (Wait, don't bother--that's a rhetorical question for effect.)

Hyenas.

5. This is just an extension of what they did in 2000.
Rove had a large number of GOP employees devoted solely to parsing every word uttered by Gore/Leiberman--practically in real time--and then sending out "rebuttals" as press releases. This often happened so fast that the same article that reported the Democratic sound-bite would have the Republican "war room" generated rebuttal in the morning paper.

They've got loads of money, and I'm sure their war rooms are well staffed. Lots of computers, communications gear and people to run NexisLexis and Google searches. I hope we're set up that way, too. If not, we're suckers.

15. Don't forget the influence of sites like DU...
Edited on Tue Jul-20-04 11:15 PM by AZCat
While the GOP may be able to fund a bunch of "rebutters", they can't hope to match either the numbers or the energy of posters at sites like DU. Countless times I've seen rebuttals posted here within minutes of the original event, and from what I can tell the email/phone campaigns are becoming more rapid in their response.

I look forward to seeing (and participating in) the DU War Room for both conventions!

Edit: correction

what an awesome idea, people can post relevant rebutts that the moderators can scan through and forward to convention people ASAP to use on the fly.

I'm a Massachusetts taxpayer, and these bozos will drain security resources from the Fleet center and Boston citizens. I hope some Dems go down to their war room and slaps them silly.

11. Where do they get this "most liberal senators" jazz?
The one site I know of that ranks Senate and House members on a liberal/conservative gradient has both Kerry and Edwards almost exactly in the middle among Democrats.

http://voteview.uh.edu/sen108.htm

Robert Byrd comes in as most liberal, then Boxer, Reed, Lautenberg, Kennedy, Sarbanes, Harkin, Jeffords, Graham, Leahy, Dodd, Rockefeller, Durbin, Feingold . . .

Edwards and Kerry are 21st and 23rd on the list, just above the half-way point among the 49 Democratic senators.

Not that I wouldn't be happy if they were more liberal -- but the Republicans have been pushing this "out of the mainstream" meme so hard, I'd really like to see someone call them on it.

16. If there wasn't a vote FOR something, it's considered against it.
They consider any votes that took place in the Senate when a Senator wasn't present to place a vote to be a NO vote (against the proposal). Because Kerry & Edwards were campaigning and not present to place a vote, the Pubs have assigned all those "no vote either way" to be against their agenda...therefore against the Conservative ideals and extremely liberal.

I don't remember where I found this explaination, but I couldn't figure out how they came up with this either and started hunting on the net. I guess I have to give them credit for creativity.

12. I think the gloves need to come off in Boston. I think every....
...available able-bodied Democrat needs to show up at this "war room" and treat them like they treated the people trying to do a recount in Florida.

Additionally, I think every unemployed and/or under-employed person in Boston ought to show up with signs asking where the GOP is hiding all of those new jobs.

And I also think that cameras need to be set up to broadcast the activities on a realtime basis back to a website that will be specifically set-up for this purpose. And that website has to be advertised like crazy to make sure that as many people see it as possible.

They want a "war room"? Let's give them one.

14. let them go ahead and waste a pile of money!
Who is going to be persuaded by shit from them? chimps base?

chimp is going to lose this election and he is going to lose big. Although 100's of millions have been spent on senseless negative advertisments, chimp can't gain an inch of ground. chimp is now being seen by the media as pathetic his supporters are even more pathetic for being supporters. For the last 3 1/2 years he has only appealed to his "base" and his base isn't going to mean shit come November. The only thing that could save his sorry ass now would be a declaration of martial law. Watch the wholesale flight away from this clown in September and October as the repukes try to "regroup" for 2008.

Lets see them debunk that without providing Bush's records. Make the truth squad answer all the questions Bush and Cheney are dodging.

20. Read This Quote Carefully
"We're going to set the record straight as Democrats try to sell a story to the American people that's completely disconnected from the reality," said Steve Schmidt, a spokesman for President Bush (news - web sites)'s re-election campaign.

Why does Steve use the term "the reality", instead of reality? I'll tell you why, because it is the GOP fascist "perceived reality" (their lies and distortions hence "the reality" not just plain reality) that Bush and his ilk are desperate to protect.

These guys are as useless and predictable as cheap shoes. Uncomfortable and falling apart.
