DJ FBI Imposes Oct 1 Deadline In Anthrax Letters Probe - ABC
(sorry...no link yet)

NEW YORK (Dow Jones)--The Federal Bureau of Investigation has set a
self-imposed deadline to make a case in the 2001 anthrax attacks, ABC News
reported on its Web site Tuesday evening.
Citing "federal officials," ABC reported the FBI set an October 1 deadline for
its agents to build a case that will stand up in court.
The anthrax-laced letters, sent to U.S. lawmakers and several news
organizations, killed five and sickened 17 others.

Somehow I feel Asscroft and Mueller already know who’s involved and they want this one to die quietly and anyone that wishes to pursue it after Oct. 1 will be “nudged” quietly to pursue other endeavors….

3. Doesn't this admit failure?
What's the current status on the guy they kept calling a
Person of Interest"? I forget his name, but I fealt really bad for the guy. He lost his job, and reputation, and the FBI wouldn't say anything except he was a person of interest.

Does this deadline mean they just failed to find anybody and this guy is off the hook? Of course, even if it does, the poor guy is still going to look guilty unless he can do the job of the FBI and find the people or person who really did this.

Damn shame!

5. He's just like the security guard at the Atlanta Olympics
He's out of a job and his reputation is ruined.

It's tough being a scapegoat, and the pay is poor to boot.

6. Who's out of a job? This is the FBI not CIA.
I'd accept your argument is this was Tenet's thing, but it's not. This is the FBI. It's also on Ashcroft's agenda. It still doesn't make sense to me.

10. Steve Hatfill
I think that's his name. He used to work for SAIC as a specialist in bio-terrorism. Had an "interesting" background. Was publicly called a "person of interest" in the investigation - which translates to "we don't have enough evidence to indict you, but we will smear you in the press anyway".

He's now unemployed and likely unemployable in his profession.

Definitely a strange character, but even so, I believe in proving guilt in a court of law.

12. Sorry, I misread your post.
Yes, Steve was the guy I was referring to in my original post. I do feel sorry for that guy. Don't know who he pissed off, but for sure it was somebody in the FBI.

I find it difficult to believe he fought them so hard and be guilty....but they can't find anything on him. For them to give up now convinces me more that he is innocent. I wish there was a way to help him get his reputation back, or BETTER, help him prove it was part of a conspiracy.

4. Is it possible that the entire thing was a hoax?
That perhaps the material was misidentified as Anthrax, but it was too late to stop the frenzy so, to save face they let it go? The entire thing has seemed strange and improbable from the start.

8. If no one haI'd acc your idea, but several people did die.
I have said all along that it was strange that only Dems had received infected letters. It was an unfortunate aside that some people at Post Offices were affected, and the news rag in Fla was probably seen as a left wing source of some kind.

I find it interesting that no Pubs ever seemed to be threatened.

Maybe Ashcroft is just trying to quietly put this to bed before the election.

15. Obstruction of justice
This investigation was a non starter from the get go because a large insider defense contractor which operates as an intelligence front is responsible. I'm sure they got their orders from the highest levels.

This is my opinion based upon circumstantial evidence. It was all a part of Operation Reichstag.

16. Link to article on ABC News
http://abcnews.go.com/sections/WNT/US/anthrax_investigation_040720-1.html

5 people are murdered, 17 people were sickened, attacks were attempted on 2 US Senators and their staff but they are going to drop the case after October 1st. This makes so much sense {rolleyes} I have always wondered if there was a sudden surge in sales of the stock of the company that makes cipro before the attack....

correctly, he killed 3 people, but the investigation went on for many, many years.

There's no time frame to which convict people of murder or attempted murder. This is BUSHIT.
