UN vehicle blown up by mine in DR Congo
The United Nations said one of its vehicles had run over a mine and exploded in the troubled northeastern Ituri region of the Democratic Republic of Congo at the weekend, slightly injuring two people.

"There were two lorries in the convoy. One of them was blown up by an anti-tank mine. Two people were slightly injured - the driver and a member of (French aid agency) Atlas Logistique," Leo Salmeron, UN spokesperson said MONUC would send a helicopter and armoured vehicles to the area to rescue the injured.

The convoy had been travelling towards Komanda, 110km southwest of the regional capital Bunia, Salmeron said. It was carrying two MONUC civil servants, two members of Atlas Logistique and eight Congolese nationals.
