Kabul 'bounty hunter' accuses US (Rumsfeld)
Here is a case of plausible deniability: set up an off-the-shelf intelligence operation that is outside the government, accountable to no one.

A US citizen arrested in Kabul over an alleged freelance counter-terrorism operation says he was working with the knowledge of the US defence secretary.

Jonathan K Idema said the US government had abandoned him. Washington says he was a mercenary.

Mr Idema was speaking shortly before he went on trial with two other Americans, Edward Caraballo and Brent Bennett.

The trial, on charges of torture, kidnapping and running a private jail, was adjourned on Wednesday for 15 days.

1. OH OH, Caught and now what...."In 15 seconds this tape will self
destruct..."

The Gov't don't even know" these guys any more... situation...TOO HOT.

Idema will scream and yell to no avail as our Govt quietly tries to free him through backdoor pressure.

Too late, damage done, as it has already.... once he goes over the top...the Govt will back off.

Idema has fucked himself....

2. Idema has been involved in other mercenary operations
These guys are always on the fringe, and there is always plenty of funding and logistical support from unknown sources.

This work so well in Nicaragua with the Contras, why not Afghanistan and Iraq?

Do you ever wonder what those American "contractors" were really doing in Fallujah?
