U.S. Troops Fear Mounting Casualties
U.S. Troops Fear Mounting Casualties
By PAUL GARWOOD, Associated Press Writer

BAQOUBA, Iraq - An insurgency that just won't die is leaving American troops in the field wondering if they are going to be next.

"Is it likely we will lose somebody else? Yes, it is," said Capt. Thomas H. Johnson Jr., who leads one of the coalition's most battle-scarred units, based in Baghdad. "But all we can do is be as ready as possible."

Johnson's 3rd Brigade soldiers, more than any others in the U.S. 1st Infantry Division, know all about being prepared for battle; their casualty rate is above 25 percent, including six deaths since April.

The death toll of U.S. troops killed in Iraq since the war began last year reached 900 early Wednesday when another 1st Infantry Division soldier was killed. His Bradley fighting vehicle struck a roadside bomb in Duluiyah, 45 miles north of Baghdad.

His death followed those of two Marines and two soldiers, announced Tuesday by the military.

3. My guess is very soon
at the present rate it will only take another 46 days to reach 1000. The thing is 1000 isn't a magic number, I thought that 500 would wake people up, it didn't. I don't expect anymore from this milestone.

5. 25% Casualty rate
I would suggest that all of our patriotic, brave and god fearing Americans who comment about DU people on other sites sign up for a tour with the 3rd Brigade and joint the cause to bring chimp's democracy to Iraq. I would bet that they wouldn't turn you away.

This God damn mess has turned out precisely as expected! the latest reports indicate that the US soldiers are in fact hold up in isolated forts that they venture out of at their own peril, and large population centers can't even be approached. Now they have even figured out how to open up bradleys like a can opener. It has taken a little longer than Scott Ritter predicted, but the US will end up getting it's ass kicked out of Iraq.

8. Other countries in the "coalition?"
The casualties appear to be proportionate to the number of troops. We have about 135,000, Britain I think 15,000 or so.

The other countries have "fig leaf" participation, a few dozen or a few hundred just so Smirky could claim that we have a "coalition" when in fact they are bribed and paid for troops, (other than Britains).

Why should any of them be put at risk, including our own. It was a stupid, boneheaded idea, and it will never ever work. They won't stop shooting until the foreign invaders have been driven out.

The British learned this (and should have remembered) in 1920 when their occupation of the country was expelled causing tens of thousands of British deaths.

14. How
does one determine whether or not the "casualties" are proportionate?

19. Coalition of the Killing
The whole coalition thing was total bullshit from the start. We strongarmed a few 'nobody' countries to tag along on this misadventure. It's not their fight, so I don't blame them for not taking hits as bad as we are.

10. Any of the soldiers
who still can't see through this and how they've been misused and abused may well be too stupid to go on living.

What is really sad is that this will continue no matter which puppet of the Anglo-American financial empire is elected in November.

Kerry is genuinely concered...He's been there and done that..
Iraq has most definitely turned into the next Vietnam..
If our soldiers can hold out a little longer..they will be coming home.
