Chinese readers of Bill Clinton's autobiography are getting some unique - and completely fictional - insights into the former President's life.

He quotes Chairman Mao and recalls as a child asking an uncle to take him to China.

On the other hand, concerns in Western versions of the book and human rights in China are conspicuously absent.

The reason is that a slimmer, paperback version of My Life is being sold by counterfeiters ahead of the actual publication.

It's crazy the way the world works.

I have a friend, Yi, who came here from China when he was younger with his mother (who since abandoned him and went back) who tells me that this type of thing isn't all that uncommon. He says movies are also redubbed with pro-china dialogue. He said all but the oldest residents see through most of this and think it is more comical than anything.
