Hispanic Groups Urge Bush to Stop California Recall
LOS ANGELES (Reuters)

A coalition of Hispanic legal groups on Sunday said it would call on President Bush to stop California's Oct. 7 recall election, while one of the state's top Democrats endorsed a colleague who broke ranks to run for the chance to succeed Gov. Gray Davis.

The call by the Mexican American Bar Association and La Raza Lawyers of California came two days after a federal judge in northern California said he may put the election on hold if four counties can not bring themselves into compliance with voting rules enacted in the civil-rights era.

Meanwhile, Steve Westly, who became a multimillionaire as a senior executive of online auctioneer eBay Inc. and was elected California's controller last November, this weekend endorsed Lieutenant Governor Cruz Bustamante in the recall.

Westly adopted Bustamante's tactic of urging Californians to vote "no" on the question of recalling Davis but "yes" to Bustamante as his successor should the recall pass.

Results of the Field Poll released on Saturday showed Bustamante leading Republican actor-turned- politician Arnold Schwarzenegger by three percentage points, though the gap was within the poll's margin of error. -

1. hahahahahahah
They're asking Bush for help? He'll give them as much help as he gave us when Kenny-boy Lay was stealing us blind. They should save their breath.

2. The POTUS ....
CANNOT interfere with the gubernatorial elections of an individual state, nor with the initiative processes allowed under some state constitutions ....

Simple as that .....

NO on Recall ....

YES for Bustamante ....

8. well, now
Technically, POTUS can't interfere with a strictly states' rights issue like electing electors to the EC, either. But they did.

5. "No on Recall, Yes on Bustamante"...
Good. California Dems need to repeat this often. Get the phrase into the public consciousness. Get everybody and his brother in front of a camera to endorse Bustamante and say those words.

6. Smirkboy won't stop it....
but it will be good press when his refusal makes
headlines. Hispanics will be more likely to go
to the polls and vote for Bustamante.

7. The people who are pushing the terminator...
are making a f*cking joke of what I, and others consider a sacred privilage. People lost limbs and many gave their lives so We The People could have a voice in our own republic. If you are so stupid that you would vote for a third-rate 'actor', or a porn pusher, or a self-declared sex symbol to run your democracy, please, just DON'T F*CKING VOTE!!!! Don't make a mockery of this cherished right granted to us. People around the world are being tortured, raped, 'disappeared' and murdered because they dare ask for a say in their own government. Go ahead, vote to overturn a fair election, then vote for some dumbsh*t actor who needs to bolster his already gargantuan ego by winning a governorship, and then laugh at all the fools who would lay down their lives for something you consider an entertaining distraction. I'm not going to 'lighten up' on something as important as this.
