Democrats denounce allegations against Berger (Kerry camp sends out email)

WASHINGTON - Democrats assailed Republicans who suggested Wednesday that former White House national security adviser Sandy Berger sought to hide embarrassing materials when he removed classified documents related to the investigation of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

The presidential campaign of Democratic Sen. John Kerry of Massachusetts accused the Bush White House of disclosing the existence of a criminal investigation for political advantage. After news of the investigation surfaced, Berger, who served in the Clinton administration, quit as an informal adviser to the Kerry campaign Tuesday to limit the political fallout.

The investigation of Berger began in October, but it came to light only this week as the independent commission investigating the attacks was preparing to issue its final report on Thursday.

“The timing of this leak suggests that the White House is more concerned about protecting its political hide than hearing what the commission has to say about strengthening our security,” the Kerry campaign said in a political memo distributed by email.

2. The media lies.

Berger did not remove classified documents. He removed copies of classified documents (and some of his own hand written notes taken while he was reviewing the copies).

The distinction is extremely important. Removing "classified documents" implies they are originals and that they were tampered with before they were returned, or were taken in order to destoy them.

Removing copies of those documents could never lead to that conclusion.

The Republican attack machince is trying to embed yet another lie into the electorates brain.

this is just the beginning...the repubs and the corporate media are nervous that King George will lose the election and so they are now on 24/7 bashing the crap out of any dems, whether it is true or not....remember the 2000 election...same thing is happening again. Kerry has been above the fray in all the Bush scandals that the media has decided to ignore...but soon he will be hit with hammers from all sides...by the repubs and so-called liberal media...it has only begun my friend!
