By Frank James Washington Bureau

While the top Democrat on the Sept. 11 commission praised the comprehensiveness of its final report Thursday, experts said there were serious omissions in the document.

For instance, the report did not deal with the issue of whether the Iraq (news - web sites) war had made the nation more or less safe from acts of terrorism, analysts said.

What's more, though the panel recommended that U.S. policymakers do more to win favor in the Muslim world, it spent little time assessing how U.S. support for Israel affects that effort.

2. When I was in Israel,
our tour guide told us to look around at how "American" everything was and proudly proclaimed in her heavy accent, "We your 51st state!"

This is just "facts on the ground" as the Israelis like to say and so it is hopeless to launch into a discussion as to the pros or cons of this policy. I sympathize with the authors of the report. Arguing the issue is flatulence into a hurricane.

The U.S. is, in a sense, held hostage by some in the Jewish community on the subject of Israel.

For instance, what other religious group is holding a 'celebration' of their relationship with the Democratic Party?
