President's Florida Lead Plummets to 2 Points
"Florida's 27 electoral votes are up for grabs in a presidential campaign that both parties expect will be a long, hot, seesaw battle.

A Mason-Dixon Florida Poll indicated Thursday that President Bush's lead in the state has shrunk to 2 points - within the survey's margin of error - as Sen. John Kerry's post-primary popularity has risen. Pollster Brad Coker said Bush's position is more precarious because of eroding support among Cubans in the Miami area.

The Mason-Dixon poll released in April had Bush ahead 51 percent to 43 percent.

State Democratic Party chairman Scott Maddox said the poll indicates momentum for Kerry and running-mate John Edwards, who are expected to get the traditional "bounce" out of the Democratic National Convention in Boston next week."

9. In other polls, yes. But the M-D Poll is notoriously biased to the right.
As always, GOTV efforts are critical.

4. running on his record can only lead to the same thing that he has
created:

DISMAL FAILURE

"I think this spells bad news for George Bush," said Maddox, contacted in Rocky Mount, N.C., on his way to the convention. "He can't run on fiscal conservatism because of the deficits he's created. So he'll have to run on foreign policy, and most people in Florida disapprove of his handling of Iraq now."

8. Kerry is ahead in Florida - M/D poll is always somewhat pubbie-slanted.
Something to do with their method of sampling or adjusting the results.

11. Mason-Dixon is one of the oldest, most reliable polling firms
especially in southern races. They have been accurate, consistently, as a regional pollster, for around 30 years (they only went national in 1983).
