Lawmakers to break recess for 9/11 hearings
Edited on Fri Jul-23-04 02:26 PM by cal04
Reacting to the Sept. 11 commission's call for urgent intelligence reforms, key lawmakers on Friday announced that the Senate will interrupt the August recess for hearings focused on some immediate legislative proposals.

Because of the urgency of this task we will begin work right away, and we will hold the first hearing the first week in August," Collins said. "So no longer will it be a sleepy quiet August around here."
Added Lieberman: "How can we go about business as usual when the commission has given us a charter to make America safer?"

Collins said the first priorities will be to tackle the recommendations to establish a counter-terrorism center and a single intelligence director. The other recommendations made by the commission in its final report will wait until early next year, she said.

2. I wouldn't
hold my breath...the GOP (RW) don't want too much coming out too soon that might 'cause problems re: convention coverage.

4. hmm--timely rehashing of the treasonous errors maintained by
the Bushies over the warnings of the Clinton admin would be delicious just before the RNC. I'm looking forward to it!

Glad the seante will put aside partisan concerns to do their jobs for a change, even if it is an election year!

We'll see if it happens.

3. Oh brother...
I'd rather they all stay on vacation.

And I'm having a difficult time understanding exactly why anyone wants them to try and make us "safer". This is what leads to crap like the Iraq invasion, the PATRIOT Act, and Son Of The PATRIOT Act. Bullshit PR after-the-fact-so-we-can-say-we-did-something.

Wanna make me safer? Get the fuck out of congress, the lot of you.

6. Can't help but think this is the same response the administration
had to clinton telling them osama was to be a top priority...and then all the news they got ahead....and bush went on vacation....

they are more worried about getting elected that again they are doing nothing....is it again....so something can happen......

I just find their lack of action....incredible...
