Sudan's cruel and slow starvation
By Hilary Andersson
BBC correspondent in Darfur

I'm sitting in the dark on the edge of a camp for displaced people in Darfur. I can hear the loud, persistent crying of one child rising above the murmur of the camp as the people settle down for the night.

Tonight the stars are out - that means no rain. Last night was not like this at all.

You can see it coming in the afternoons. The sky begins to darken and the horizon goes an ominous, brown shade of yellow.

Then the wind starts and the dust of the Sahara desert whips up, blasting whirling sands in all directions. The people start to run in their long rags, heads bowed against the wind.

Sudan's cruel and slow starvation....

1. This situation is killing me. Are Americans allowed to go into
the region. If I could I would take 3 shiploads of food for these poor people.

2. Doctors without Borders is seeking volunteers
You don't have to be a doctor.

I have compiled some links to relief agencies here:

3. sometimes you just don't know what to say . . .
all I can think of is the vast sums we've pissed away in Iraq, and how that money could have been used to save lives rather than destroy them . . . there must be a special place in hell for those who make war while ignoring the suffering of their fellow humans . . .

4. How many Sudanese lives would the $90B we've wasted in Iraq have saved?
Ask a Republican.
