Mexico Judge Rejects Charge Against Ex-President
MEXICO CITY (Reuters) - A Mexican judge on Saturday threw out charges against former president Luis Echeverria for ordering a 1971 massacre of student protesters, federal prosecutors said.

Echeverria, 82, of the once-dominant Institutional Revolutionary Party, or PRI, faced the prospect of becoming the first former president in Mexico's modern history to be indicted and arrested.

But a criminal court judge ruled the statute of limitations had run out on crimes committed during the June 10, 1971, attack by a paramilitary band on student protesters in Mexico City that killed as many as 40 people.
