'Fahrenheit 9/11' a Hit With Disney Chief
http://my.netscape.com/corewidgets/news/story.psp?cat=50802&id=2004072416510001901554

ASPEN, Colo. (AP) - Disney chief executive Michael Eisner has
seen ``Fahrenheit 9/11,'' the film that The Walt Disney Co. refused
to distribute - and he liked it.

``The reason it is a hit is it's entertaining,'' Eisner said
last week. ``I thought it was like going to a rock concert. I loved
it, but not in a political (sense).''

Eisner spoke at Fortune magazine's fourth annual Brainstorm
conference, co-hosted by The Aspen Institute.

``Fahrenheit 9/11'' criticizes President Bush's response to the
Sept. 11 terrorist attacks and the war in Iraq. The documentary has
filled theaters since its release in June, drawing a
record-breaking gross of $94 million.
Eisner has said Disney decided not to distribute the film
because its shareholders and customers do not expect it to be a
partisan company.

1. well, there's a quote for ya: "I loved it, but not in a political (sense)"
I guess he loved it for the humiliation it brought him. That's lovely.

2. Yeah, it's all about entertainment isn't it? That's why we protest .
We are in the streets en masse because we want to be better entertained Mr. Eisner. And Bush wins that contest hands down...I've been laughing so hard I've cried.

5. Exactly. I'm sure they could have made a LOT of money off it
But would it have outweighed the ridiculous tax breaks they get from Jeb? Shareholders should ask that question.

10. Exactly. So they're not partisan?
What about their latest flop, "America's Heart and Soul"? I won't go see it, but I've read it's Disney's smarmy answer to F9/11. I guess it was so syrupy sweet and unrealistic that it was flushed from the theaters after 1 week.

Not partisan, Michael?

7. Shareholders and partisanship....riiiiiiiight.
Eisner has said Disney decided not to distribute the film
because its shareholders and customers do not expect it to be a
partisan company.

No, mister Eisner, but they DO EXPECT it to be a profitable company and letting the best earning documentary EVER slip has cost them a shit load of money.

15. Oh no--why Disney would never be partisan----
unless it's for the Repugs of course. Witness the John Stossel hatchet job on John Edwards Friday night on the Disney-owned ABC's 20/20!

If I were a stockholder in Disney, I'd want Eisner's head on a platter. He turned away a movie that made major bucks for someone else--a movie he admits was "entertaining"????? And this guy is heading a major corporation? HOW and WHY? would be the two questions I'd be asking.

11. Eisner and 9/11
With the success of the Passion of the Christ, there was a rumor that Disney was going to hire Mel Gibson to take Eisner's place. Does this mean they are now considering Moore? If so, this would make ABC watchable again.
