Media Upset With DNC Restroom Facilities
By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

Filed at 7:17 a.m. ET

BOSTON (AP) -- Media members, already perturbed by long security lines, may find themselves waiting in line for something nearly as important. As the majority of the print reporters arrived Saturday at the FleetCenter for the Democratic National Convention, tongues clucked when they saw the restroom facilities that they will be using for the next week.

Twenty portable restrooms, like those used on construction sites, are lined up in front of the media pavilion to service nearly 1,200 members of the print media who will be working around the clock. That's about 60 serious coffee-drinkers per toilet.

``That's absurd,'' said Jim Drinkard, a political reporter for USA Today, when he heard of the ratio of toilets per media member. ``This is not the type of planning you'd expect out of someone trying to be a good host.''

5. poetic justice
since the media has been burying us with excrement about the war.
Overflowing, stinking, overcrowded port-a-potty's are very appropriate.

6. Found this guide for # potties needed.

http://www.mrjohn.com

Seems to me they will have plenty of potties available. Plus, I'm sure they will be cleaning them daily if not more often, so I really don't see the problem.

18. Well...
Inside there's probably far more than 60 people per potty. I've attended a sold out event at the Fleest Center, and there were far more than 60 women IN LINE at any given break in the action.

Edited on Sun Jul-25-04 03:16 PM by John_H
Don't think the whores are petty, craven, and, well, pissy enough to let their disapproval of the bathroom facilities to color their coverage of the convention? You've never watched them in action. If I were the DNC, I'd have a thousand plumbers working 24/7 building bathroom facilities starting now.

14. Right. (Serve 'em those little chocolates with "ExLax" on 'em.)
Twenty porta-potties for the potty-mouthed presstitutes is about 4-6 more than the recommended number. Since the presstitutes have potties in their motorhomes, I don't understand why people tolerate the waste. Flush those turds!

20. I love it, T Bone!
Trouble is... I'm sure Wolf and the other talking heads will be able to relieve themselves inside the Center itself. It's probably the camera operators and other non verbal members of the media crew who'll be most likely affected.
Then again, I would have thought that the Big Media corporations themselves would have a certain amount of responsibility for the comfort of their (certainly well unionized) crews on site.

Fenway has to have the world's fewest toilet facilities! Or so it seems.

I'm not shedding any tears for them.

26. Hint: Use the men's ... the booths are open.
Women should just get used to walking into the men's room and using the booths while the guys are all lined up along the trough.

The women at Stanford U. football games have been doing this for about 2 decades. More power to 'em!

The Toilet Tissue folks have a porta john "float" that they use at events. After every use the john is cleaned by an attendent, very impressive. Suprised they aren't here. Maybe they don't need any Govt help in their business.

Perfect spokesperson, last name is Drinkard and since he's on the "Standing" Committee of Correspondents, I am sure he'll provide a great example of pottyline patience for his fellow correspondents to follow. Welcome to the real world of events. :7
