Bickering over politics is tearing New Jersey apart
NY TIMES NEWS SERVICE , NEWARK, NEW JERSEY
Monday, Jul 26, 2004,Page 7

Who knew that a condiment could spark so much civil unrest?

It all began a few weeks ago, when a few right-leaning lunch customers at City Beans began rejecting the usual squirt of Heinz ketchup on their paninis, saying they did not want to support a company with the same name as the wife of the presidential contender Senator John Kerry. It was not long before strident remarks about US President George W. Bush, Kerry, the economy and the war in Iraq began whizzing up and down the lunch line, with Democrats and Republicans trading barbs as they waited to be served by Narciza Lopez, the assistant manager. "People never used to talk politics here," said Lopez.

"Now every day is like a war. It's making me crazy," she said.

A similar kind of war breaks out each Sunday night around a dinner table in working-class Kearny, where hotheaded political discourse has begun cleaving Josefa Salino's family into two camps. "My parents used to agree on everything and now they're like enemies when it comes to Bush and Kerry," said Salino, an accountant.

"It's hard to enjoy your food when everyone is yelling," Salino said.

This is 100% the fault and due to Gingriching of America. The repuke hatred of everything in the world. Have you ever seen a repuke smile? The entire soul is full of evil and hatred. The party surely aligned with Satan.

The good, moral, honest people of America, Democrats and Independents, have no choice but to stand up and patrioticly defend our nation!

5. You honestly look at it!!! Bush cannot smile at all. It's a forced smirk
but it's an evil 'fuck you' smirk. Cheney doesn't even pretend to smile. He smiles with his voice, 'fuck off'. Laura "I killed my boyfriend' Bush has one of the coldest faces I've seen. Something like a murder movie and she's the defenent. Her smile is what I liken to a 'Cold Mason Cult Smile.' The Bush Twins have no smile either. What they come up with is honestly something in between their mothers' "Cold Mason Smile" and aWol's 'Fuck You Smirk." And we all saw the twins practicing on last week.

This is all honest FACTS that can easily be analyzed but professional psychologists. And if the tables were turned, visa versa Bush Family Cold Mason smiles compared to Kerry/Edwards genuine smiles, it would be Prime Tme News on every media source in America.

GROW UP!!!

Have you noticed that all Bush supporters are childish, petty and spiteful? Every single one of them! No wonder this country is in so much trouble! :eyes:

On edit: Should I stop buying Bush's Baked Beans? :eyes:

7. Jerseyites are funny
We're intense, and quite frankly, a little nutty :)
What is going on in NJ, though, is being seen all over America. I don't think I've read about a recent time in history when America has been this polarized.

9. I can't speak for Jersey but, dang, there is a lot of tension
EVERYWHERE..... Sometimes it's easy to get away from it, other times it just can't be avoided. Even if people aren't talking about politics, people are simply UPTIGHT for almost nothing. I saw a woman freak out in the grocery today (in our nice laid back coastal town) because she forgot to pick up her newpaper at the check out stand. Someone else picked it up, I guess....this lady was going into meltdown.

My youngster was telling me of people going ballistic in his workplace (fastfood) over a teensy weensy mistake in the order. People driving like maniacs. Just a general "tension" in everyone's face and in the air. Pretty sad.

12. We noticed that in Chicago!
Mrs. Cat and I were at Target on Sunday, and we saw this woman scream at a stocker about some brand of cat litter that she needed. It was very surreal.

No matter who wins in November (though it'll be worse if Bush wins, as I suspect that there will be few buildings left standing).

14. Tearing up families all over the USA
Pitiful, but necessary. My brothers and sister wont speak to me ever since they found out I was actively anti war. Oh well, that's their problem, not mine.
You can love someone, and I love them, but I dont have to like them.

16. NJ
In a way, the bickering in NJ is a healthy sign. At least NJ Democrats aren't rolling over and playing dead -- they're fighting back.

It's hyperbole to claim that a lunch-counter dispute over ketchup is tearing the state apart. NJ is traditionally a swing state in politics -- it's not all democrat or all rethug.

I grant you that the Rethugs are vicious, spiteful and immature. And dumb! They're too stupid to realize that Teresa Heinz Kerry's first husband was a Rethug congressman, and she used to be a rethug herself. Heinz is probably a rethug company.

And just what does boycotting Heinz ketchup have to do with the price of tea in China?

19. Proof that Bush is a 'divider'
The Republicans are hate-filled cowards whose money and control of the media incite poor stupid citizens to do their dirty work. These people don't even know how they are being used.

21. I don't blame Gingrich. I blame Limbaugh. And Scaife.
There are an awful lot of people in the US that listen to the thriced-divorced drug addict every single day. Day after day after day of listening to one-sided criticism of one person and one party. Clinton-hate became acceptable. Now that Clinton is gone, they've simply expanded their hatred to include anyone liberal: Hillary, Kennedy, Kerry, whoever.

22. News Flash: Gingrich was one of the original attackers who started this...
....whole mess. His participation in that effort and in bringing in the religious right is detailed in "Blinded by the Right." That guy is a freakin' monster.
