Mine-clearing is the new job fad
By Barbara Hollands

Young people keen to make a quick buck working on oil rigs or cruise ships, packing fish in Iceland, and throwing pints in British pubs, now have another "more dangerous" alternative.

Those with a penchant for the wild side or for offering humanitarian aid can now clear landmines in previously war-torn countries like Serbia, Eritrea, Mozambique and Angola.

"This is a low-skilled, high-risk, highly paid job," says the Johannesburg-based managing director of Unique Jobs, Howard Joselowitz.

Landmine clearers are paid $444 a day (R2 600) over a three-month period.

I am 100% sure that Bush and ALL republicans will never make it to heaven! Nothing on Earth so evil ever could. Nothing on Earth so ignorant ever could!

:wow:
I didn't know about this! How did miss I this story?

This administration is barbaric! The entire world has recognized the danger and cruelty of landmines ... and the US says, "Let's keep on using 'em!" No wonder they all hate us. :grr:

6. Whoa, when the hell did that happen!
That's sickening. Simply sickening.
Landmines are one of the cruelest human created devices ever. All too often children and innocents suffer...

8. Well, I wouldn't say unskilled
I cleared minefields in Panama and Saudi/Iraq back when.

If you use unskilled personnel to clear mines, you pay more in life insurance payouts than wages. This is demanding, dangerous work.

Good luck to those who do it. They need all the good luck they can get.
