Bush to Push for 9/11 Reforms, Aide Says
Well, at least now we know how they're going to steal the headlines away from Boston this week.

http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ap/20040726/ap_on_go_pr_wh/sept_11_commission_86

President Bush probably will move within days to adopt recommendations made by the Sept. 11 commission, a senior administration official said as lawmakers pressed for speedy action.

<snip>

Bush directed the White House chief of staff, Andrew Card, to undertake a high-level review of the proposals. That process will advance beginning Monday, when national security adviser Condoleezza Rice arrives at Bush's ranch in Crawford.

"We will move as quickly as possible," the senior administration official said Sunday, speaking on condition he not be identified because Bush has not announced his intentions or a timetable. "Some recommendations will happen within days; others may take more time."

The official would not say which recommendations were likely to be adopted or offer more precise timing. Bush is following the long-standing tradition of keeping a low profile during this week's Democratic National Convention, and announcing his acceptance of recommendations would be sure to draw attention from rival John Kerry's gathering in Boston.

1. Awesome. You know what this means, right?
He's going to start eating Congress (read: Republicans) to save his own ass. He knows damn well Congress isn't going to be able to act before the elections. So now he's going to make them look like assholes for not getting it done. That can only help our candidates out, so long as we don't filibuster anything directly 9/11 related.

6. How does one "report directly" to a President who doesn't want to be
reported to? Tenent reported directly to Bush. Bush was at his ranch 40% of his first days in office. Richard Clarke tried to report to him and was refused. A new position reporting directly to a President who refuses to be reported to unless you say what he wants to hear will make little sense. Why don't the Dems call him on this?

Good cop, bad cop play between Bush and Republican controlled Congress. They are good at it and the American public is gullible and racist so Bush will will once again. We don't care about freedom, liberty, democracy or religion. We just use these notions of high standards of living. We care only about wealth, power, and whiteness.

7. "We will move as quickly as possible"
And it only took a mere 35 months! It's just the merest coincidence that they will finally "move" during the week of the Democratic convention.

I think this corrupt administration's shenanigans have at last worn too thin for the majority of the American people. It took Cheneying long enough.

8. True headline: Bush PUSHED to Reform
Friday he said he was going to "carefully consider" the 9/11 recommendations.

Rove must have set him straight.

9. A real president would give a speech to the American people
in person, all by himself, after receiving such a damning report on American security flaws.

The shrub leaves on vacation and puts a non-elected underling in charge of telling us that everything will be taken care of.

Suuuuuuure.

10. He'll probably give that speech on Thursday night.
}(

Don't be surprised if he does, by the way.
