And one who certainly is lauded by the forces for nuclear non-proliferation. I am not necessarily one of these, though.

4. Vanunu's accusation that Israel was behinf JFK assasination is not
is not the rantings of a crazed individual.

In March 2003 BBC2 ran story about Isreal's secert nuclear and chemical weapons program in March 2003.

The documentary revealed for the first time the "unique protection" the U.S. is giving to Israel. It is now declared that the only American president who took up the nuclear buildup in Israel, with the help of France at the time, was JFK, who called the then Israel's premier David Ben Gurion to the White House.

After Kennedy's assassination, no president has ever discussed the nuclear or WMD issue with Israel. In fact, the American Congress passed legislation banning commercial satellite companies from selling aerial photos of Dimona less than four metres away.

Partial transcript of BBC2 doc.:

Olenka Frenkiel: Nuclear weapons are seen as a justifiable deterrent by most Israelis, who feel besieged by enemies.Forty years ago Uzi Even, then a young scientist at Dimona was in at the start of Israel's bomb.

Aston: Professor UZI EVEN Dimona scientist, 1962-68

We were a very small country, and we were surrounded by much much larger, more populous states on borders that are almost impossible to defend.

Uzi Even: So we were a young crew, most of us very young, very enthusiastic, working on something we believed is essential for our existence, like building the final insurance policy that we will not be attacked or terminated.

Olenka Frenkiel: It was the young Shimon Peres, back in the fifties who negotiated a secret deal with the French to buy a nuclear weapons reactor like theirs.

Olenka Frenkiel: But while Dimona was going up, intelligence reports reached Washington that Israel was building an atom bomb.
Despite claims that Dimona was for peaceful purposes only, Israel's leader Ben Gurion was summoned to Washington. President Kennedy feared an arms race in the Middle East and demanded inspections.
But when inspectors finally entered the plant in May 1961 they were tricked. They were shown a fake control room on the ground floor. They were unaware of the six floors below where the plutonium was made.

PETER HOUNAM Freelance journalist

Well this was something of great pride and almost a legendary story in Dimona, according to Vanunu. When the Americans came they were completely hoodwinked.

Peter Hounam: All the entrances including the lift shafts were bricked up and plastered over so it was impossible for anyone to find their way down to the lower floors.

Olenka Frenkiel: After Kennedy's assassination the pressure on Israel was off. His successor Lyndon Johnson turned a blind eye.
Then In 1969 Israel's Golda Meir and President Richard Nixon struck a deal, renewed by every President to this day. Israel's nuclear programme could continue as long as it was never made public. It's called nuclear ambiguity.

The term nuclear ambiguity, in some ways it sounds very grand. But isn't just a euphemism for deception?

38. As a former employee
He had access to information, but he wasn't a high-level scientist. Some information that he is telling is very outdated and most likely never was accurate. That is even worse than if he actually knew a lot more. The reason he is being prevented from traveling and giving interviews is because he is still considered a security risk and that he knows inside information. Although he denies this, he continues to give information to the media.

47. Nothing Seems
To surprise me anymore.

RAY MCGOVERN: Yeah, well it was commonly known that these “crazys” existed, mostly in the defense department, but they were kept at sort of mid-senior levels where they couldn't do much harm. We're talking about Wolfowitz. We're talking about Fife. We're talking about Scooter Libby, who works for the Vice President. We’re talking about Cheney, in a way; Wormser, who is now with the Vice President; John Bolten at state. All of these folks were sort of around in these days. Some of them were also working for the Israeli government, interestingly enough. But they were kept at arm's length from the policymaking apparatus.

Then I better change my mind eh?

Their refusal to be a part of any non-proliferation treaty and their refusal to disarm and submit to UN inspections only creates more distrust for the Israeli administration the world over.

Your blind rebuttals to the growing world sentiment won't stop it from occurring.

It is time for Israel to change.

What does the "world community" consist of?

After looking the other way while Jews were being exterminated, they are willing to follow Arafat.

Is that the voice of the community you think has the voice of justice?

Sorry, there is nothing but conflict in the "world community".

39. Does Iran have integrity?
That is the central question. And it plainly does not. It has cooperated to some extent with inspections, but has failed them. Iran also threatens other nations in the area, and has threatened the US.

Iranian nukes are not AOK.

41. Israel still won't admit its nukes or its .chemical weapons let
alone have UN inspectors in. It like Iran and the other Islamofascist states is being driven by fanatical religious elements. The whole lot of them justifying their pig-headed inhumanity on their respective delusions that they each enjoy the the blessing of a wonderful God.

It is a further travesty that Likkudniks hide behind the Holocaust to justify its crimes. People change, sometimes for the better sometimes for the worse. The Germans are now an ardent voice for pacifism, American Republicans once isolationists now advocating preemptive strikes as well as voice new willingness to use nukes preemptively. The Jews once the persecuted are now the persecuted. Things change.

48. No doubt things change
Not always for the better in the short-term, but over all, change is for the good. Progress is being made.

Israel's open secret of nuclear development needs no international supervision. Israel does not threaten neighbors with nuclear attack, but development is a deterrent to enemies in the area.

49. No one is perfect
No government is perfect. But yes, integrity is necessary in a democracy. Israeli leaders, for the most part, and in post situation act with integrity. Whether you or outspoken members of the "world community" or "world opinion" agree is not the necessary ingredient. Acting with integrity, a government must protect it's citizens from attack. Too much an ear to world or public opinion is sure to doom any leader.

Maybe I am crazy, but this sounds pretty dang familiar with Bush's insistency on goin into Iraq:

Whether you or outspoken members of the "world community" or "world opinion" agree is not the necessary ingredient. Acting with integrity, a government must protect it's citizens from attack. Too much an ear to world or public opinion is sure to doom any leader.

And with God as their guide they will smite down the terra-ists.

Your comment is insulting and close to a violation.

Of course Bush does see eye to eye with Israel's defensive needs, as does the Democratic candidate Kerry.

By the way, Israel does act in the interests of self-defense before seeking to gain the approval of any other nation, including the US or it's president.

53. Latest update
Team to probe if Vanunu violated terms of release

A special team of Israel Police, the Shin Bet security service and the State Prosecution will examine whether nuclear whistleblower Mordechai Vanunu has violated the terms of his release by granting interviews to the foreign media, Israel Radio reported on Thursday.
....
Vanunu has been placed under a number of strict restrictions since his release from jail in April after 18 years, including speaking to the media and travelling abroad.
....

The court ruled there was no doubt Vanunu was willing to expose classified information regarding the Dimona reactor and is as determined as ever to do so. This backed prosecution claims that Vanunu is still a security risk and has shown he is willing go public with any more information he can find.
