Terror advice 'alarmist' - UK
London - Britons are being told to stock up on tinned food and bottled water and to keep a battery-powered radio at home in case of a large-scale terrorist attack or other major emergency.

In the latest sign of growing concern throughout Europe - especially in nations whose leaders supported the war in Iraq - the British government on Monday began mailing a booklet to every home, telling people to "go in, stay in and tune in" if disaster struck.

But some Britons who saw the leaflet after it was released on Monday dismissed it as merely common sense, if not alarmist.

"It will go straight in the bin, it's a complete waste of money and it's a little bit late," said Paul Kilpatrick, 35, an executive assistant.
