Many blacks staying true to Democrats
Despite a lack of spark for Kerry, party's past record, they say they're unswayed by Bush

BOSTON - The Democratic Party may have been the party of segregation at one time, but for Jessie B. Banks, 83, of Tchula, Miss., the party has become a champion of voting rights and a protector of the poor.

So the delegate to this week's Democratic National Convention was outraged when she heard President Bush at the Urban League ask: "Does the Democratic Party take African-American voters for granted?"

"Pardon my language, but that was a hell of a thing for him to say," said Banks, wearing a Yellow Dog Democrat pin on her lapel, indicating she would vote for a yellow dog if it was a Democrat.

"They do not take us for granted," Banks said.

But Bush was trying to take advantage of the fact that blacks, the Democrats' strongest voting bloc, have yet to fully embrace the party's presumptive presidential nominee, John Kerry.

A Black Entertainment Television/CBS News poll of black voters conducted earlier this month found 85 percent of blacks disapprove of Bush's job as president, and they would vote for Kerry by an 8-to-1 margin.

2. The fact that they do not support Bush...
...is irrefutable proof that they are not stupid. George is stupid.

4. He thinks of unemployed black people creating a downward pressure on
wages for big businesses. Desperation in the job market is good for business.

That's what Bush thinks of black people.

3. This is just an "aside". During Big Dawgs speech today
the camera panned around to show Jesse Jackson. He was not smiling, he was not applauding. What is his trip? Is he mad at us or what? Jackson was grinning from ear to ear during Bush's speech at the Urban league the other day????????? What's up?

5. I saw that and wondered the same thing
Do they have a spat or something? I was shocked at the fact that Jackson looked like he was at a funeral or something.

6. I saw that. Odd since I saw him grinning in *'s face at the
Urban League. Jesse is a very misguided person at times.
