Spike Lee directs new 'Enron' film
Edited on Tue Jul-27-04 09:59 AM by rawstory
AS seen on http://rawstory.com

But my question -what's up with the lesbian subplot? Corporate greed just isn't enough for the average moviegoer? Sheesh!

About halfway through She Hate Me, CEO Woody Harrelson is answering questions, explaining to frantic employees of Progiea that everything's OK. The company is not going broke, he insists.

An employee raises his hand, then yells: "Are you on crack?"

"That happened," Spike Lee says. "That actually happened at Enron."

<snip>

As for the lesbian story line, Lee says that the story needed narrative tension.

"It would make things less dramatic if the women he were helping impregnate were heterosexual," Lee says. "There's no way to really develop tension, as good as that would have been. Where's the conflict in that situation?"

2. I remember this, it was hilarious
"An employee raises his hand, then yells: "Are you on crack?"

"That happened," Spike Lee says. "That actually happened at Enron."

Spike is telling the truth. They had it on the local news. Ken Lay was standing there at a podium, reading questions from cards, in front of all these angry Enron employees that had seen their 401k's become worthless. I couldn't believe that he actually read that question, but he did and he answered it, still trying to convince the employees that they didn't need to worry and that the value of the stock would recover. The question was a little longer. It was more like, "Are you on crack? Actually, I hope you are, because that would explain a lot."
