Halliburton Wins $500 Mln Navy Deal
NEW YORK (Reuters) - Halliburton Co.'s (NYSE:HAL - news) engineering unit KBR was awarded a contract worth up to $500 million to provide private sector construction and related services to the U.S. Navy (news - web sites) and other defense department agencies, the company said on Tuesday.

Under the contract, KBR could be asked to provide program planning and other services as well as personnel, equipment, materials and labor as needed by the Navy.

The total amount of the contract which includes one base year and four one-year options, is not to exceed $500 million and was won under a competitively awarded contract, the unit said.

Halliburton, once headed by Vice President Dick Cheney (news - web sites), is the U.S. Army's main logistics contractor in Iraq (news - web sites) and also has a separate deal trying to revive Iraq's oil industry. It has been mired in controversy over its work in Iraq since it has won lucrative deals and military auditors have found evidence of possible overcharging for some work.

$500 million means $5 billion when Halliburton is concerned. Go ahead and rip us off and we'll give you another contract.

2. Does it seem to you that haliburton is getting contracts
Out of proportion with other military contractors ? LOL

The half billion deal seems kinda lame by KBR standards...musta been an off day.

6. It's all PNAC. The vast right wing conspiracy.
PNAC Cheney helps his friends at his old corporate HQ in the conspiracy.

"Rebuilding America's Defenses". War profits, oil profits, war, domestic repression, and global domination.

IMO, revolution can only be successful through mass peaceful action, including mass boycott, major strikes, and not supporting the system.

If everyone stopped paying off their credit cards all at once, it would cause a disaster.

The only way to really get to them is to not work for them, and not give them your money.

15. Halliburton contract...............................
Halliburton was awarded this services contract under the Clinton administration. In the 1990s the Army wanted to get outside help handling the logistics associated with actions overseas. That's when the Army came up with LOGCAP, the U.S. Army Logistics Civil Augmentation Program. Halliburton first won the competitive bid for LOGCAP in 1992. It lost the contract in 1997. Who was president in 1997? Someone named Bill Clinton. Halliburton was out, but Clinton needed help with his logistics efforts in Bosnia. Who did he turn to? Halliburton? He gave another contract to Halliburton with NO COMPETITIVE BIDDING. Halliburton then won the competitive bidding process again in 2001.
