Wella to cut 1,200 jobs after merger with P&G

About 1,200 jobs will lost as part of the consolidation of German hair care maker Wella AG and its new owner, Cincinnati-based Procter & Gamble Co.

The Associated Press reports that the jobs will come from production and distribution operations, and the layoffs will be made over the next 12 to 24 months. The layoffs amount to about 18 percent of Wella's worldwide work force of 17,000. Wella also said that about 300 P&G workers will be affected as well.

About 200 cuts will be made in Germany, with the rest coming from the United States, Mexico, South Korea, Indonesia and other nations. Wella did not provide a breakdown of how many jobs will be lost in each country.
