Haiti Protesters Seek Aristide's Return
Hundreds of supporters of ousted President Jean-Bertrand Aristide marched through the slums of Haiti's capital Wednesday to demand his return.

Even as the crowd rallied against Haiti's new U.S.-backed interim government, a group of Caribbean nations announced that it would make a decision in about two weeks on whether to recognize the new leadership. About 2,000 people, many waving posters, marched through the narrow streets of several Port-au-Prince slums before filing past the U.S. Embassy, where they burned small coffins bearing the names of interim Prime Minister Gerard Latortue and other officials. One coffin simply said, ``U.S.A.''

A U.S.-led multinational force of 3,600 troops arrived in Haiti after a three-week rebellion that culminated in Aristide's Feb. 29 ouster. Aristide, in exile in South Africa, has accused the United States of being behind his overthrow, a claim Washington has denied.

The U.S.-led force was replaced by a Brazil-led U.N. peacekeeping mission at the end of June.``We cannot live without Aristide,'' said 70-year-old demonstrator Solange Michel, who said her son was killed by soldiers during a 1991 coup that ousted Aristide for three years.
``We think he will return if we keep protesting,'' said Bob Fonfon, 34, a former port worker who said past protests brought Aristide back to power.

2. Months after the coup in Haiti, we are still protesting
the return of the real president, Aristide.

Years after the coup in Washington 2000, we are still protesting the stolen election.

3. If only Bush doesn't get the last word on Haiti.

He committed a serious crime against the entire population, while using their most degenerated criminals to do it.

It will take a miracle, but if miracles never happen, why would we even have a word like "miracle" in our vocabulary? Surely we're allowed one in a lifetime. This case deserves heavy duty help.

Oxfam GB Press Release - 20 July 2004

World Bank, IMF and US leave Haiti in Limbo

Washington DC – Today international donors meeting in Washington DC met their commitment to Haiti on paper but not in practice, said international agency Oxfam. A significant portion of the pledges made today were for loans not grants, which will do nothing to ensure faster, deeper debt relief for Haiti; but in fact push it into further, unsustainable debt.

Currently, the Haitian external debt totals over $1.2 billion; however in 2002 Haiti’s exports only totaled $248 million. This is an unsustainable situation and needs to be urgently addressed, and Oxfam is calling on the World Bank and the IMF to admit Haiti to the HIPC (Highly Indebted Poor Country) Debt Initiative.

Regarding the aid in grants pledged today, Oxfam’s policy advisor, John Ruthrauff, said “Donors must now ensure their promises become reality - the aid pledged must not be delayed through bureaucracy but immediately be delivered.”

Oxfam is asking the United States to provide $400 million in new aid over the next two years. “Despite strongly-worded intentions, the United States’ disappointingly pledged only $120 million in new aid today. We call on the US to increase its commitment to Haiti,” said Ruthrauff.

Wumpscut - Deadmaker

They didn't expect me
never expected my wild lust
I turned into an animal
No thought about afterwards
When I broke your bones

Dead, dead, dead I make you dead
Dead, dead, dead stained from blood so red

Dead

For my next life (life after death in the religious sense)
I get the power I need
I’m a slave to the killing
In solitary confinement

("einzelhaft" (solitary confinment) has become part of the german vocabulary after the terrorist attacks of the Red Army Fraction during the 70's. It's used for people in prison, who are put into complete isolation not just from other people, but from all kinds of information. It's what might be known in the US as "sensual deprivation", a kind of torture-technique to destroy people's self.)

Dead, dead, dead I make you dead
Dead, dead, dead stained from blood so red
Dead, dead, dead I make you dead
Dead, dead, dead stained from blood so red

Wasting away
By God’s hand
I can smell you
And my thought disappeared

Dead, dead, dead I make you dead
Dead, dead, dead stained from blood so red
Dead, dead, dead, dead

I make you dead I make you dead
I make you dead I make you dead

Tell me what you want
That you fill my longing (that you satisfy my desire)
I make you dead for evermore
God’s altar stained from blood so red

Dead, dead, dead I make you dead
Dead, dead, dead stained from blood so red

I make you dead for evermore
I make you dead believe me its true
I make you dead for evermore
I make you dead on God’s altar

President of South Africa

There was an important July birthday that passed in our country without public notice. But not so in Haiti, where thousands of people took to the streets bearing placards carrying the words, “Bonne Fête, President Titid,” Happy Birthday, President Titid.

The birthday demonstrators also demanded the return of Titid – President Jean-Bertrand Aristide, an honored guest in our country. Titid, “little Aristide,” is the affectionate Creole nickname given to President Aristide by the poor of his country. He quietly celebrated his 51st birthday in our country on July 15.

Where our people did not join him in these celebrations because they did not know it was his birthday, the people of Haiti did not forget. But they could not join him because circumstances had taken him and his family far away from his beloved motherland.

On July 15, CNN reported that “Aristide supporters, singing ‘happy birthday,’ marched with empty plates and spoons to show they were hungry.
“‘If Aristide was here, we would be celebrating with him and eat with him at the national palace on his birthday today,’ said Michele Sanon, a resident of the Cité Soleil slum.”

Reuters reported that on the very day that President Aristide quietly celebrated his 51st birthday and the slum dwellers marched in protest at his absence, gunmen killed two policemen in Haiti’s capital, Port-au-Prince, having fired on a group of police officers standing in the street. The authorities said the attack was politically motivated.
