Three U.S. Soldiers Killed, Three Hurt in Iraqi Blast
July 29 (Bloomberg) -- Three U.S. soldiers were killed in separate incidents in Iraq, and another three more wounded in a bomb attack northwest of Baghdad, the U.S. military said.

One soldier died in the bomb attack that took place at 4:45 p.m. Iraq time yesterday, a U.S. military spokesman said by telephone from Baghdad. An Iraqi civilian was also hurt in the blast. The spokesman wouldn't say where the attack happened or give details of the incident.

The other two soldiers died of their wounds after separate incidents yesterday in Iraq's Anbar province, northwest of Baghdad, the military said in a statement received by e-mail. It didn't give any more details.

1. This just shows what GREAT PROGRESS we're making.
Edited on Thu Jul-29-04 03:25 AM by thebigidea
Are they saying "Anbar province" now instead of Fallujah?

It would make for even MORE bad PR if the words "near Fallujah" were used, I guess.

Fallujah: What a raging success that's been...

Incidentally, I'm glad some media sources always point out:

" almost 85 percent of them since President George W. Bush declared an end to ``major combat'' operations on May 1, 2003"

Every time they say that, Karl Rove winces. The Kerry campaign MUST put "Mission Accomplished" in a commercial in the coming months - it would be brilliant to take their own planned photo-op and use it against them.

I just saw on the CNN crawler that two marines have been killed west of Baghdad. Soldier deaths have increased in pace since that phony "handover".

6. one word, 3 letters, an endless scream of anguish
for every death, every injury, every drop of blood spilled, every life destroyed, every family shattered, every child's tears, every mother's grief, every shot fired, every bomb exploded, every day this insanity continues.

why?

and today- and tomorrow- and the day after- that one word will repeat itself and be all that some family, somewhere, will be left with.

and more and more often, I can't even respond on these threads to offer condolences, to honor those who have given their lives, to say something - anything, because that's the only word that comes out.

and the threads drop and disappear and it looks like nobody notices or cares. But sometimes, there just aren't any words other than

why?

9. It gets very discouraging soup
I know these threads sink like a stone, I think I've responded to every one of them only to watch a thread of lesser importance receive four times the responce.
Now, more than ever these stories are ignored, to me there isn't any thing more important right now. Our brothers, saisters, fathers, mothers, and all close to us are being killed and wounded daily, and if this moron* steals the govt. again the jigs up.
The draft is back, war spreads everywhere, our people are totally cheyned.

10. It's not that nobody cares, Soup
I read these threads reporting the daily casualties and my heart aches. After the ache comes the rage. I can't even formulate a response that wouldn't be filled with invective against the MONSTERS who got us to this place.

Also, when I read a headline such as "...three HURT in Iraq blast", I wonder what is meant, in this context, by "hurt".....contusions and abrasions?....broken leg? No... more than likely, given the force of these munitions it's losing a limb, or severe brain injury or loss of sight.

Then my rage gives way to contempt for the people in my RW neighborhood/community who are cheering this war on, even those with 14 and 15 year old sons. How soon they'll find out. But even after they've sacrificed their sons (and daughters) they'll still find a way to justify following the Chimpanzee over the cliff.

Stupid.....stupid.....stupid! :grr: :grr:

17. oh, I know.
I know.

I wasn't pointing fingers, I was very poorly trying to convey my own inability to respond - and feeling guilty because these threads drop so quickly. The pain and the rage and the only thing I can muster is 'why'?

I'm sorry, the weight is just overwhelming today. I needed to walk away and do something constructive. But felt so guilty because I Could just walk away, that I didn't. (whew- doubt that made ANY sense at all)

My husband is a disabled vet.
Our youngest son (17) has a passport.

13. Here's how they got around it
They reported one killed yesterday, but that was from the night before. They also reported 3 "multinational force" personnel killed, which was just vague enough to receive a resounding silence from the asinine, incompetent, or criminal American media. Then, the next day they release the real deal (which anyone paying attention already knew, since it is the US Army and Marines fighting in al-Anbar Province, and not the Italians, Poles, or Ukranians), and it is ignored, since they already reported "several multinational coalition personnel killed" - which of course means nothing to anybody in the United States, since we don't give a shit about "multinational force personnel," but about US Marines.

Easy peasy.

18. How Many?
I also noticed Drudge's link to "The List" which used to show totals about how many casualties there have been now does not list the total anymore.

Directive must have went out to stop reporting this, on the web sites and the mainstream TV news. I haven't spotted any stories that say the total lately either.

Not like I want to see the total higher but I would think it news worthy. It will likely be 1000 right about the time of the election and Bush and Co. will not want that talked about.

16. the media is pretending the war is over
They have never been held accountable for their part in this tragedy, and neither has the administration. When will there be republican accountability? Enron, fake mobs in Florida, Delay's Westar scandal in which the freakin Board of Directors ratted him out, the lies for the medicare corporate welfare act, the threats and blackmail on the senate floor...

But back on the subject of lives lost for this particularly egregious lie, I am so afraid that Kerry and Edwards are letting themselves get painted into a corner on this. As soon as they take office they are vulnerable to calls for them to be tough, back up their rhetoric. I think it would be smarter to say, "this time we'll listen to the professional soldiers." You know, the guys that knew this was a bonehead play. I'm afraid this is just the beginning, and we are being duped into an unwinnable, unmoral and endless war.

..it's rarely mentioned anymore. That's how the corporate media, and the Bush administration is honoring our troops. Hiding their deaths, hiding their caskets, cutting their benefits.

33. Ignored is the right term
You have to search to find mention of US casualities. You will not find mention anywhere near the front of a newspaper, on Google News, and usually not on CNN site.

I don't watch network/cable news having given up on it long ago so I can't say if they cover these deaths.

I'd wager most Americans don't have a clue that their soldiers continue to die.

When will American's wake up. When will enough be enough. Must every soldier die, before we drag that madman out of the WH. How many innocent Iraqis must die before we prosecute those who are guilt of these war crimes.

29. Saigon68 has it right
We're now desensitized to military deaths, just as people I know think gas below $2/gallon is cheap. When it happens gradually...and no one points it out in the media...it just becomes background noise that most people tune out.
