Cleland foe defends GOP 'truth squad's' stop in Boston
Sen. Saxby Chambliss ventured Wednesday into the heart of what is --- for this week, anyway --- Max Cleland Country.

The Republican senator from Georgia was part of a Republican "truth squad" that held a news conference across the street from the FleetCenter, where the Democrats are holding their convention, to counter their political message and screen a video detailing Sen. John Kerry's alleged "flip-flops" on the Iraq issue, with the theme from the TV show "Flipper" in the soundtrack.

At the Democratic veterans' caucus Monday, Chambliss came under heavy fire from Democratic strategist James Carville for the way he conducted the 2002 race in which he unseated Cleland. Democrats repeatedly have cited a Chambliss campaign ad that juxtaposed Cleland's image with those of terrorists as it derided the then-senator's vote against creating the Homeland Security Department in a disagreement over employee security provisions.

<snip>

"I'm not running for the Senate, and my former opponent is not running for president," Chambliss said. "We're talking about Bush and Mr. Kerry, and I'm very proud of our president's support of veterans."

Chambliss said, as he has in the past, that he never questioned Cleland's patriotism, just his voting record.

1. Don't question patriotism, just voting record, not skin color, just race
So why does the media let the the GOP/Chambliss get away with this obvious lie?

6. Chambliss - NO MILITARY SERVICE - How dare he question ...
the patriotism of someone who sacrificed so much? These conservative yellow-bellies like Chambliss and Bush would run from the battlefield. - It is people like Cleland who have fought for and given the nation security since 1776.
- I'm not as pissed at Chambliss as I am at the PEOPLE WHO VOTE FOR SCUM LIKE CHAMBLISS!

8. Or the media who lets guys like Chambliss skate on those issues
Chambliss is responsible for the commercials his campaign ran. Just as Bush is now-every negative campaign ad I've seen has been preceeded by "I'm George W. Bush and I approved this message".

12. He's very proud that Bush SLASHED funding to veterans.
That's something we should all remember next time he comes up for election. He's very VERY proud of the proverbial middle finger that Bush gave veterans. He continued on saying "those no good socialist commie pinkos that think that they deserve medical care for protecting our country can go to Canada!"

This guy is a total fucking joke. He is nothing more than a puppet of the Republican party. I can't possibly see how anyone could take this nonsense seriously.

14. This kind of campaign, if waged against chimp would be condemned
and shouted down by the media from the outset. However, in this case it receives favorable exposure from the press.
