1. I'm doing my part!
I'm waltzing on down to the unemployment office today. I hope I don't have to stay on it long--I hate being on the dole at all.

But I have to say that in a larger sense my troubles, while highly inconvenient for me personally, are one microscopically small black mark in this Administration's book.

Am I happy being broke and temporarily reliant upon The Man? No. But I am happy that my suffering is recorded and regarded as something more than insignificant.

2. I know what you're saying...
I was pissed when my unemployment ran out, because I don't show up on the rosters anymore. There's no way to track "discouraged" job-seekers, other than surveys.

3. Reuters seems to think this is "good news"
The ranks of Americans lining up to claim an initial week of jobless benefits inched up by 4,000 last week, the government said on Thursday in an as-expected report that suggested stability in the pace of layoffs.

...

The level of claims was only a touch above market expectations. Analysts polled by Reuters forecast claims to rise to 340,000 from the 339,000 initially reported for the week ended July 17.

U.S. job growth picked up earlier this year after a long drought and claims remain at levels economists consider consistent with further gains.
