SEC probing Krispy Kreme books
The corporate scandals... end with your morning coffee??

As seen on http://rawstory.com

THE STREET.COM
Krispy Kreme (KKD:NYSE - news - research) slumped 9% early Thursday after the doughnut maker said regulators were probing its accounting.

The Winston-Salem, N.C., company said the Securities and Exchange Commission has asked for information that "generally concerns the company's franchise reacquisitions and the company's previously announced reduction in earnings guidance."

Krispy Kreme was long a Wall Street favorite, but the company's shares plunged this spring after it slashed earnings guidance, famously blaming the nation's low-carb craze.

"Krispy Kreme has no higher priority than the confidence of our shareholders, customers and employees," CEO Scott Livengood said in a Thursday press release. "While we are confident in our practices, we understand and respect the SEC's responsibilities and will continue to cooperate fully throughout this process."

Worst PR move by Krispy Kreme...making XL and 2KL t-shirts. Saw a fat guy wearing a KK shirt and drinking a frappe. Just shook my head.

7. Enough with the dumb jokes
it's just sad, i mean, krispy creme is so much better than say, crappy cardboard dunkin donuts...it's sad the donut industry has gotten so commercialized -- bakery doughnuts can be so much better

10. Down with corporate doughnuts. Buy locally grown doughnuts!
Last I heard, the Krispy Kremes in my neck of the woods were all struggling financially and blaming the low carb craze, but the local doughnut shops and bakeries are reporting booming business at the same time.

Here's a clue for the KK board of directors: Your sales are slumping BECAUSE YOUR DOUGNUTS SUCK!

17. If they make you queasy... don't eat them.
I, personally think that Krispy Kreme is the best thing that ever happened to this universe.

Krispy Kreme donuts, do not make me fat, I make myself fat by eating too many of them. It does not help matters that I do not exercise enough to balance this out. I however, shall assume personal responsibilty for my wieght, and continue to eat Krispy Kreme Donuts because I choose to.

Some smokers I know are defensive about their lifesylte choices, they know it's bad for them, and eventually it will kill them, but they enjoy it, so they don't care. I would rather live a short life full of things that I enjoy, than a long one full of things I don't enjoy.

While the possibility of another corporate scandal concerns me, I am happy to support the guys down at the local shop, who by now all know me by name. Even if some thing really bad is turned up in there higher offices, I will still continue to eat there, because quite frankly, I think they make damned good donuts. As long as they continue to make donuts as they always have, if the HOT sign is on, I'll be there.

I will be eating Krispy Kreme Donuts long after it kills me.

18. We only go to Krispy Kreme to watch them make the donuts
My kids are fascinated with the donut assembly line but we only eat one apiece (which they usually hand out for free). Personally, I really don't like the glazed donuts; I feel like my teeth will fall out after I eat them since they're so sweet. I usually just drink the coffee which ain't that good either.

For the grand opening of Krispy Kreme here in Cranberry Twp, PA people camped out overnight to be first for the 6AM opening which was hysterical. It was the first KK in western PA. Now you can KK anywhere so the novelty has definitely worn off.

BTW, opening day here was Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2001. Really.
