State Agriculture Commissioner Arrested On 12 Charges

COLUMBIA, S.C. -- State Agriculture Commissioner Charles Sharpe has been arrested and indicted in connection with a cockfighting ring.



Sharpe was indicted on 12 counts including extortion, money laundering and making false statements to federal law enforcement officials.
The indictment also alleges that after he received an illegal $10,000 payment on December 2002, Sharpe committed multiple acts of money laundering through financial institutions.

The 67-year-old Sharpe was elected agriculture commissioner in 2002. Sharpe is a Republican who served in the House from 1985 until 2002 and chaired the Agriculture Committee.

I always scan thru to see party affiliation first and am usually not surprised to see "Republican." The man should be hung by the short hairs for this inhumane practice! I deplore any animal cruelty!!
